The Lugger is nestled at the foot of a valley with picturesque cove and tiny harbour. Portloe is part of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula, surrounded by cliffs and headlands which form part of the Cornish Coastal Footpath. The Lugger sits right at the water’s edge in the very heart of the village and has been recently transformed following a major renovation programme. All the public rooms have been refurbished and greatly improved to offer comfort and functionality in the truly unique setting of this historic harbour. Luxurious touches throughout have helped the hotel to gain multiple awards, The Lugger has been named ‘Best Seaside Hotel’ by The Sunday Times, has featured on the Condé Naste Travellers ‘Hot List’ and also features in the Mr and Mrs Smith and Hip Hotels guidebooks. more » « less

Any review of this hotel is pointless without taking its unique location into account. My wife and I walked from the Lugger to Place (opposite St Mawes, from where one can take a ferry into St Mawes). It was 13 miles on a sunny day along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline ... in the world. Starting at... more

I booked a room at the lugger hotel expecting a 4 star boutique but recieved an over priced and some what run down average chain hotel. Upon arrival I was greeted by a over friendly american women whom proceded to talk to me as if we had known each other for 15 years.Although obviously friendly my wife and I did... more

We recently had a mid-week break at the Lugger; having read and been seduced by the hotel blurb and images. If only we'd looked at Trip Advisor first; we'd have seen plenty of reviews of the type I'm about to write. A great deal about this hotel was a false representation. "Room with sea views and private terrace" Only if... more

As the new General Manager of the Lugger Hotel I do take your comments most seriously. Please let me assure you that an extensive programme of re-furbishment/maintenance is now well underway. I have a new Head Chef Didler Bienaime in place with his team and can promise the food and service are now as you would expect them to be...

I booked the Lugger for a weekend stay to celebrate my husband's 40th and spent most of the two day stay either irritated or just plain ashamed that I'd believed the Lugger hype. In the first five minutes of getting to our room, I'd come across flaking paint on the woodwork and walls; a broken shutter; dirty towels; weeds growing... more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a special weekend, we've stayed here twice before 8 and 15 years ago. It's in a beautiful and peaceful setting and has been very tastefully renovated by previous owners. However while the rooms are light and airy with good bathrooms, they are let down by attention to detail, there are lots... more

we stayed in room 303 - a lovely big size - huge bed, great shutters but the bathroom really let it down. the room stinks of damp as a result. it feels very tired and there are signs of mould. not what i would expect from at £275 a night hotel. the food was distinctly average - pub food at... more

The hotel rooms are very nice & clean if somewhat small, The lounge area needs updating to keep in contrast wih the resteraunt ,which the whole hotel revolves around due to its outstanding views, it certainly isn't for the food, which was very pricey & not up to scratch. If your going to charge london prices in the middle of nowhere... more

Stayed here late last year with my wife for a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cannot agree with previous post other that the rooms are great! Enjoyed the food immensely (it has a rosette too) and found all staff to incredibly friendly and helpful in their atittude. Apparently the hotel is now owed by some big corporate chain, what a... more

I would have to agree with the majority of the reviews on this page. We went to the Lugger Hotel for our honeymoon night! We found our room to be very comfortable, and have absolutley no complaints there. Our evening meal was so so so disappointing. To be fair, my starter was fantastic, local seafood, and delicious! However, my husband... more

Situated in a tiny hamlet nestling in cove on the shore used by the local fisherman, the Lugger has an authentically salty location. Our room was quite spacious with french windows onto a terrace outside beside the lane to the slipway but: Cables dangled from the wall to the television, the wardrobe had the sunbed mattress, a chest of drawers... more
