From the moment the very friendly and helpful owner answered the door to the moment we finally left the next morning, you just felt that it was a pleasure being there. The breakfast was excellent and locally sourced, which I liked, the lodge out the back was very comfortable and clean and overall, it was a smashing stay.

This small hotel used to be the gatehouse to the Rothschild estate and is very atmospheric. Our room and bathroom were small, but very clean and comfortable. The owners, Michael and Julie are extremely welcoming and go out of their way to make your stay memorable. They will prepare an excellent evening meal for their guests if required and the... More

Nice place, courteous staff and great breakfast. Only a short walk from The Bell Inn, very convenient :-) Only minor thing was that we had a twin room rather than a double, but we didn't book very far in advance so we were grateful to have any room! Would stay here again.

We took the advice of travellers when we were attending a RAF passing out parade - nice and local to that, 6 mins MAX! As it was December probably not the best time to rate the outside - lots of trees = lots of leaves = lots of brown sludge on the ground! Entrance was by ringing bell and the... More

The location is excellent, within easy walking of the main attractions. The hotel has a fascinating history and the gardens are wonderful. The staff are friendly and helpful, with a typical English breakfast served in a wonderful dining room. The town has historic pubs and offers first class dining.

I visited here for a walking weekend with a friend. What a wonderful place. The building is old and used to be a lodge for a large house since demolished which was owned by the Rothschilds. The owners are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was fantastic the produce is all locally grown and the eggs the... More

The hotel is set well back from the road and consequently guests are not overly affected by traffic noise. My room and bathroom were compact but adequate with a view of the private garden - a restful place. WiFi is free and fast. No evening meal was served but there are several restaurants within walking. Owners are friendly and helpful.... More

My husband and I stayed 4 nights in this Hotel. There was onsite parking, but please note, that when busy, this was very tight to get in and out of - exacerbated by other travellers who showed no consideration, by parking poorly (ie: askew, too far from other cars so that a three park space could only accommodate 2, and... Just returned from a two night stay at West Lodge Hotel with 5 members of my family. A thoroughly lovely experience. Accommodation spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We stayed in the 'Garden Rooms'. Nothing was too much trouble for Mike and Julie. Mike has a fantastic knowledge of the area and was always on hand to help. Julie served us... More
