- I stayed here for a week in March. The owners are really great and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. It's a very relaxed vibe and the small number of guests really makes it feel like you are visiting friends. Clandestino seems to attract laid-back, awesome people (when I was there it... More

1. The owners are so sweet. Corinna and Stephan are a young couple from Germany with an adorable toddler who I can best describe as a blonde George of the Jungle. He runs around barefoot in a diaper, and he is always smiling and is very chill-kid. 2. The accommodations are great. The owners have really thought through the details.... More

We absolutely loved our 2-night stay at Hostel Clandestino. It was during a 16-day Nicaraguan adventure, which took us to Little Corn Island, Leon, Maderas Beach (north of San Juan del Sur), Ometepe and Laguna de Apoyo. If I had to pick a single one-night “top destination” pick, combining both accommodation and nearby exploration, it would be Clandestino. Perched above... More

We were a group of three guys and we truly enjoyed our five-nights-stay at Hostel Clandestino! If you're prepared for the quite remote location (bring some food and cash with you!), this is a great alternative to noisy San Juan del Sur. Therefrom we used the Shuttle to Playa Maderas, which leaves at Casa Oro Hostel, it's about 3 Dollars.... More

I recently spent a little over a month at Clandestino, and left feeling as content and relaxed as I have in years. Stephan and Corrina (and baby Paul) are the proprietors, and are assisted by Max, the first mate. The three of them collectively create an extremely welcoming atmosphere. They are all very friendly and kind, and live a simple... More

Where to start? This is simply the best place to stay at Playa Maderas for a genuinely chilled-out and sincere experience. Corrina and Stephan (and their son Paul) are such genuine hosts and run an excellent hostel that caters to anyone from seasoned backpackers to first-time travelers. Their main-man Max holds stuff together perfectly to allow them some time off... More

Hostel Clandestino was the type of place that makes a vacation feel like a vacation. The palapas were incredibly well constructed, with nary a nook or cranny for critters to find their way in, yet somehow you still felt the beauty and tranquility of the jungle around you. All the structures within the hostel are impeccably clean, comfortable and modern.... More

The owners are really friendly, chilled out and welcoming. Amazing and Peacefully up in the lush trees above the beach. Just what I needed after San Juan del sur. It takes a little effort to walk up the hill, but it's all worth it. Rooms clean and comfy, I was lucky to spot some monkeys passing by from my balcony.... More

My trip to Playa Maderas was wonderful but Hostel Clandestino is what really made it special. Juan and Javier are incredible hosts and have really created a welcoming and charming environment. The hostel is in the middle of the jungle and all you can hear are the howling monkeys, birds, wind and the sound of the ocean in the distance.... More
