We stayed for 3 nights at Poppy Cottage last week at the beginning of our holiday in Yorkshire and The Lakes. What a brilliant start! A lovely old farmhouse - a very comfortable room, snug sitting room for our use, even a sunny decking area in the lovely garden. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the breakfasts Steve and Sally serve... More

To write a simple review of Poppy Cottage I would just need to say read all the other reviews, they don't lie, it definitely deserves it's excellent reviews. The setting is perfect overlooking the Yorkshire dales. The guest house is spotless, the breakfasts are excellent and, depending on what you choose, can be quite filling. The real beauty however is... More

Our stay at Poppy Cottage was absolutley delightfull. Wonderfull hosts, Steve and Sally made us very welcome indeed. Freedom to come and go as we pleased. Very comfortable lounge to relax in on an evening; with doors out to a beautifull guest garden overlooking the pet chickens and pigs, with views beyond to the wonderfull yorkshire countryside. The Primrose room in... On arrival we found ourselves in a comfortable, converted farmhouse, with every modern convenience. A very warm reception from Steve (chief cook and bottle washer),followed by an equally warm reception from Sally. Following a tour of the ground floor, gardens and "animal sanctuary",we were shown to the Sunflower bedroom, which overlooked the garden and hillside beyond, where.wild life abounded. Nothing... This was our first visit to Poppy Cottage but it certainly will not be our last. Sally and Steve are wonderful hosts making us feel very welcome on arrival and throughout our three night stay. We had the Poppy room which is an absolute delight; Breakfast was excellent with exceptional choice and very well cooked. The whole place was just... More

Our stay at Poppy Cottage was faultless. The sunflower room had a lovely outlook over the back garden to the hill behind. It was nicely furnished with an old fire range that had been hidden behind a wall until the extensive sympathetic restoration. The bed was a decent size, very comfy and all was blissfully quiet. Breakfast was nicely served... More

The delightful welcome from Steve and Sally made us feel more like house guests rather than paying customers. Tea provided in the delightful rear garden seating area ... Peaceful. Great decor throughout, breakfasting room especially. The Primrose room was well appointed for a Cottage style B&B and has a corner bath. Steve and Sally put on a five star breakfast... More

Stayed at the here for a few days over the early May Bank holiday and we stayed in the Poppy Room with wallpaper of large red flowers, there 's some doubt whether they are poppies or not, our host Steve admitted. We had a very nice stay, the room was well appointed, the bed was huge and comfortable and the... More

Our first visit to Poppy Cottage and we really hope it won't be our last! All previous reviewers are absolutely spot on! We don't think we can add anything to what has been said. We are just so pleased to have found this jewel. We would recommend it to everyone but want to make sure that there's a room for... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Poppy Cottage Guest House is situated in the quiet little village of Carleton, just 2 miles from the bustling market town of Skipton, known as the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and is within easy level walking distance using the public footpath into town. Having its own entrance, stairs, lounge, dining room and private garden, guests will enjoy the privacy of the cottage yet benefit from the service provided by hosts, Steve & Sally. In particular the hearty Yorkshire breakfast, prepared to your liking using bacon and sausage from our own outdoor reared pigs and fresh eggs courtesy of our hens who you will see roaming freely 'up top'. Breakfast is served in a relaxed atmosphere at a time to suite you, all in what was the original farm kitchen. ... more   less
