We went on Sunday for our anniversary and from start to finish the evening was fantastic. The owner was very bubbly and welcoming, for starters we had the Battered squid with home-made sweet chilli dip & Spiced sweet potato soup with onion bhaji. Both were well presented and delicious. For main courses we had the Herefordshire rump steak & Venison... More

A wonderful afternoon spent with family at this excellent restaurant, we received a warm welcome upon entering and were given the option of a drink at the bar or to go to our table, we chose to have a quick drink at the bar so I was introduced to the wonder of rhubarb gin (new in and well worth it)... Went for Friday dinner, first time at restaurant. We ordered olives to start and got complimentary home made crisps and bread very yummy! Main course, steak and pork was delicious too. They also have a good selection of drinks. Overall great food, great service and lovely venue. Will definitely go back and would recommend

Unusually for a restaurant ranked by Michelin there was little emphasis on napery or sleight of hand with plates being removed/replaced to no apparent purpose with the effort being directed to excellent service and cuisine. The dinner menu should have satisfied all palates and if my belly pork was anything to go by was excellent. The wine list is extensive... More

Family Weekday Lunch to celebrate a birthday. Top quality food in lovely gastropub in rural location. Fillet steak was as good as I’ve had anyway in world – Japan Kobi beef included. Robinsons cider is nectar – not quite so keen on Woods beers but these things are personal tastes. Pity it is rather difficult to get too. But well... More

We were looking very much forward to our visit to the Stagg Inn and are very happy it was one to remember. A warm welcome as a good start and a delicious bread and butter desert as a log lingering tasty farewell to remember. In between venison and Herefordshire beef dishes that were extremely tender, local cheeses that - apart... More

Lovely family run inn that is much, much more than a gastro-pub. I have been going for many years and it has not just maintained its standards but steadily increased them. The local venison was particularly good as was the asparagus soup and perfectly cooked seafood 'nibbles'. Not just good for Hertfordshire, but one of Britain's culinary gems.

I could find no fault with our evening. The food was absolutely delicious throughout every course. Generous portions without the plates being swamped of well cooked fresh food. Delicious sauces. Amazing front of house with delightful and efficient waiting staff. This restaurant did not disappoint in any way.

My husband and I spent a night at this fabulous establishment. Our room was in the vicarage which was a short walk from the main hotel. The vicarage was a beautiful building with lovely gardens. We enjoyed pre- dinner drinks at the bar where there was a fine selection of gin and vodka. Our dinner was wonderful. I had delicious... More

This is a better than average bistro/pub restaurant. When you walk in first impressions are of a cosy country pub with rooms, the main restaurant is upstairs. In the bar you can have a wide variety of of aperatif/cocktails, there is also an extensive wine list. The food is excellent , the menu provides something for everyone. I had a... More
