We stayed in the old Rectory and it was lovely and relaxed, but the food in the Stagg was just fantastic. Smoked bone marrow so delicious and I would never have thought of dipping crisps in chocolate with cumin, but just yummy with coffee. The service was very efficient and friendly, whilst the garden made a lovely place to sit... More

We are regulars to the Stagg inn for Sunday lunch and it is absolutely superb .The bonus for us is that we eat in the bar where our dogs have always been made welcome which is so important .The standard of food and service is outstanding .Always given a lovely warm welcome , well worth the 45 /50 mile round... Sublime food. I mean, really, really good food. Some of the best I have ever had. The bar & waiting staff were somewhat less impressive though. No specific bad experience, just that they were mostly disinterested, bordering on aloof. Certainly nobody was giving that little bit extra to ensure we had a memorable experience. As if they would have rather... More

Popped in on the off chance , it was quiet as they had only opened 20 minutes earlier . I had the Steak sandwich served with garlic mushrooms chips and leaves , my partner had sea bass. Service was great as usual and the food was absolutely gorgeous couldn't fault it and we are fussy.

I visited once before back in November for my mums 65th birthday and wasn't disappointed! Lived up to what I hoped it would be! Returned today for a Sunday lunch with my cousin, auntie and 92 year old nan! Was absolutely fantastic and amazing value for money. Portion size was a lot more than expected and quality of food fantastic.... More

My fiancé and I spent the weekend at the Stagg for a romantic getaway. We were able to book the apartment adjoining to the restaurant/pub which was fantastic as it felt like having our own quarters but still staying at the Inn itself. I believe the rooms at the Old Vicarage down the road are also very pleasant. The Stagg... More

The Stagg has accommodation within the pub, also separately at the vicarage which is a short walk down the road. We stayed at the vicarage. I have written a separate review about the food at the pub, here I will focus on the accommodation. The vicarage itself is set within lovely gardens which are well tended and very peaceful. The... Food was nice, although over seasoned for my taste. Service OK, but really needed more than two front of house staff. Just left feeling disappointed as was expecting something more special from a Michelin star restaurant. Price was not at Michelin level either so perhaps we got what we paid for - was not fine dining.

This was our third trip to the Stag, but we were staying in the Old Vicarage for the first time. The food was exceptional and the creative use of local seasonal produce is a real hallmark of this friendly pub. The service was just right - excellent timing with a degree of informality. Th Old Vicarage was a very comfortable... More
