An update to my previous five-star review of Luna Azul - same great hotel, terrific restaurant, warm welcome, and fabulous view of the Pacific. But now, there's wi-fi in the bungalows as well as the lobby/restaurant. A small thing that makes a great small hotel even better.

The Hotel Luna Azul is a lovely hotel near San Juanillo Costa Rica 8 miles north of Nosara . The owners are a pleasure to deal with and run a wonderful boutique hotel . The meals are fresh and delicious . The rooms are lovely with outdoor seating areas and outdoor showers . This is a must visit if your... More

We spent the last week of January at Luna Azul, our second visit to this little paradise in less than a year. The hotel is beautifully landscaped, all the casitas are very comfortable and have incredible views. The outdoor shower is very private and adds to the uniqueness of the property. Included in the cost of your stay is a... More

This lodge definitely has the pura vida! Absolutely loved the open, colorful Pacific architecture with the natural wood. The resort fits so well in the jungle it would not surprise me if everything was built with natural materials from the area. The outdoor shower was a unique experience. That was the first time I saw a monkey when showering :).... More

I came to Luna Azul after a travel agent booked me into a "lodge" which turned out to be a total dump, looking for an actual hotel to stay at for the night. When I arrived at Luna Azul, the manager first complained to my travel agent about bringing me to see a room at 9:30 PM, which yes, was... More

1. Check-in with a confirmed booking is possible until 10 pm. Our experience shows, that the later at night, the higher the percentage of strange people wanting to do a check-in. You came to see a room at 9.30 pm, that means, it was dark for 3 ½ hours already. You obviously checked out in the morning in Ostional village... More

Ostional is just a spec on the map, but Luna Azul should be its capital. We were a little down after such a slow-going drive from Santa Teresa, but that quickly changed when we arrived at the hotel. Rolf was our very welcoming host, who showed us to our Cabina and around the grounds. He rushed us through the check-in... More

If Disney Land is your thing, Luna Azul probably isn’t. But if you love gracious hospitality, star gazing from your private balcony, eating luscious meals on a terrace overlooking what can only be described as a slice of heaven, and relaxing in a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere, this is the place for you. We’ve spent a week at Luna Azul... More

Hotel Luna Azul is truly a paradise! The cabinas were spacious, the outdoor shower was amazing, the balconies and leather rocking chairs were perfect as were the spectacular views. We awoke to the sounds of howler monkeys each morning and got to see them swinging from tree to tree behind one of the cabinas. The infinity pool was so wonderful... More

All I can say is this property is just what I was looking for! The bungalows were perfect and the outside showers were pretty epic! This place is somewhat off the beaten path, but that is what I like about it. Rolf and Andreas have done an amazing job at putting this place together. The infinity pool is beautiful and... More

This property feels less like a commercial enterprise and more like staying with really good family friends that happen to live in a resort type property with great food. The owners are hands on taking care of your every need. The food is the best for miles around, the rooms with the outdoor showers and scenic balconies are so restful... More
