Did not stay at the hotel..only visited the restaurant which has a good reputation locally. The restaurant looks cosy and inviting. Staff are efficient, friendly and helpful. All good until the food arrives. Our thai fishcakes did not live up to their billing. Our single fishcake lacked flavour of any kind....certainly no thai flavours evident. The wasabi mayonnaise was just... More

A different review than usual, nevertheless I wanted to make it. I made quite a complex enquiry to The Crown, my dealings were through Nadia. She was amazing, very caring and patient so I can certainly recommend the service. I have not had the opportunity to visit yet, but hope to do so very soon.

We went to a friends party in Henley-on-Thames in early August, and were looking for somewhere to stay for the Saturday night. Henley seemed to be fully booked. We didn't want a "spare room in a house" type of B&B, so ended up booking a room at the Crown Inn in Playhatch, around 5 miles or £15 cab ride from... More

Very nice pub with great garden, decor and pleasant service. BUT!! When it comes to the food it is very disappointing. A strong South African influence that does not travel well that gives no insight Cape Malay cuisine.

I booked to stay at the Crown Inn for one night through Secret Escapes and it was exceptionally good value for money. The hotel itself is a quaint country gastro pub but inside it has a good mix of old and new. The rooms are converted stables, our room was quite small but nicely decorated with enough space for a... A fantastic weekend in a small but friendly hotel. The Bedrooms were converted stables but dont let that put you off they were much nicer than a normal hotel room and also included your own patio area overlooking a well kept garden. Meals were included in our deal and they were superb. It is only a 4 mile drive into... More

Six of us ( three couple) took advantage of a Secret Escape deal was was very good value and my husband and I tagged on an additional night at the normal rate at the beginning because we were in London on business and didn't fancy hacking back up to Leicestershire only to head back down to the Oxfordshire/Berkshire border the... This delightful inn consistently delivers on quality of food and service. We had a table for 5 and all had Sunday Carvery which was delicious. The meats were succulent and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. Deserts were good portions and with a South African flavour on some of them added a unique touch. On the downside the draught cider had... More

Just had a night here in a lovely room, beautifully decorated in a simple style. Set at the back of the restaurant so no noise.Food was gorgeous and staff could not help enough. We will be back door more!

The Hout Bay salad (both large and small) were main courses and both considered excellent. The Churchill Burger was tasty (burger plus egg, bacon and cheese) and the chips in particular were freshly cooked and large and succulent. Coffee was fine. We were seated outside in a courtyard with comfortable wicker seats, I'd recommend you find them. Lots of easy... More
