I can't say enough about our guides--Vernie, Juan Carlos, Leo and Alex. There were experts at everything---rafting, cooking, zip-lining, nature. Plus they were warm, friendly and funny. They were most capable on the river and were "right there" for the few who fell in. We were in good hands. The lodge is magnificent. The rooms, although simple and small, were... More

Before the rafting we were apprehensive, but there was no reason to be, it was honestly the most fun i have ever had. The rafting was brilliant and i imagine it would have been brilliant even if our guides had been just doing their jobs, but the guides went above and beyond what was expected of them and truly became... We spent 2 days with the Rios Tropicales team and had a great experience from start to finish! The rafting on day one (with Alex and Leo as guides) was great fun, followed by a superb dinner at the lodge - beautiful accommodation in a stunning location! On our second day (after an excellent breakfast!!) we did some zip wiring,... More

We booked the two day overnight rafting trip to Rio Tropicales. After a funny, and very bumpy, tractor ride to the river on the first day, we were met by Leo and Alex (our guides). They took care of us, not only during the rafting but also by preparing us really delicious meals during our stay and making us feel... More

We loved this lodge! Our guide Mey was terrific! He really made this part of our trip more special. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and activities and the scenery was amazing! Our rooms were well maintained and we really enjoyed sitting out on the balcony and watching the river and the birds. No AC, but the temperature was comfortable for... More

My wife, daughter and I took the two-day one-night rafting trip. It was a fantastic experience that we'll never forget. Booking was easy. The whole thing is very well organized. Pick-up from and return to our hotel (in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui -- no extra charge) went smoothly. Breakfast was fine. The rafting was exhilarating and challenging (people did fall... More

My family of 4 did the 3 day rafting tour down the Rio Pacuare in May 2014. We had a terrific time. We Started with a hearty meal at the operations center. Then a shuttle to the put-in point. Did about 3 hours rafting the first day. We Spent 2 nights at the lodge. We stayed in a "superior" cabin.... More

My wife and I did the overnight trip -- raft about 10km the first day, 20 the second. Rios Tropicales picked us up at our hotel on the front end and provided transportation to our next hotel (in La Fortuna) on the back end. In between, they delivered on a great rafting experience, good food, a little zip-lining and hiking,... More

My Mom and I stayed one night at Rios Tropicales on April 22. It was incredible from the journey there on the raft, to the fantastic river guides/chefs, to the accommodations. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an adventurous vacation!

Everything about this trip was amazing. The rafting was fun and safe, the lodge was beautiful and comfortable, the zip line, natural water slide and jungle walks well organized. So much to see on your own as well, hidden waterfall only a 30 minute walk away, in addition to natural waterfall swimming pool behind lodge. I can't recommend Rios Tropicales... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our multi-day trips treat you to an exceptional adventure vacation experience combining rafting on the Pacuare with a stay at our remote "Eco-Lodge", tucked in the rainforest on the banks of the river. A trip of pure magic, unsurpassed beauty, wildlife and ravishing rapids; Pacuare is the quintessential tropical river. Along its course lay several densely vegetated gorges, which shelter, jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloths and an incredible variety of birds. Also found within these gorges, is some of the best whitewater in the world. "at its lodge, hammock-filled, thatch-roofed huts, offering dorm and honeymoon style rooms, surround an even larger thatch-roofed lodge net to a gurgling waterfall linking the huts to the lodge’s open-walled dining room, bar and reading room are bamboo-railed boardwalks that make wearing anything but river sandals sacrilegious. Don’t get so comfortable in the reading room’s hammock; however, that you miss the cocktail-hour bell; in true jungle fashion, all apres-paddle drinks are served in coconut shells."
