Loved the rafting trip as I have reviewed already, but the Lodge is worth mentioning. If you love being out in nature, sleeping to the soundscapes of rivers, nocturnal jungles creatures, howler monkeys, cicadas etc. Birdwatching along the river off your deck, fresh open air all night through the screened windows (no glass), you will love this lodge. It is... More

Had a great 2-day trip with Rios Tropicales. Loved staying in the lodge in between, but the guides actually made the trip. Roy was not only a skilled rafting guide, but was also hilarious and conscientious. Loved the professional pics that they took too. Would write more, but the other reviewers have described the experience well enough already.

Our one day trip to Pacuare river on February 26 with Rios Tropicales was the best experience ever. Transportation from our hotel in san jose was perfect. Our guides more than friendly, the best ones. Spectacular costa rican breakfast (un gallo pinto con maduros de primera) at the operation center. We had lunch in the middle of the river, food... More

You are literally staying in the middle of the rain forest and surrounded by its beauty the whole time. The grounds are beautiful, lots of flowers, butterflies, bridges, waterfalls, etc. The rooms are great; I loved the cabins. The shower is awesome! All stone tiles, great water pressure, and lots of hot water - it felt like a spa! It... More

I went with friends for a 3 day 2 night stay. Rafting was our first part of our holiday as soon as we arrived in Costa Rica.Pick up from our hotel in San Jose was straight forward. We had lunch at the operation centre. Food was delicious and tasty compared to what we experienced afterwards else where in Costa Rica.... More

Our two-day trip on the Pacuare River could not have been better!! Otto and Chino ( our guides ) were nothing short of excellent! The stay at the River Lodge was premier and we loved the home cooked meal after a long day of navigating rapids. We should of stayed longer at the lodge to enjoy the canyonniering and other... More

We came to Costa Rica in 2009 and did the 2 day Pacuare trip staying at Pacuare lodge. This visit tried to rebook but they wouldn't pick us up from our accommodation ( even tho it was just off Highway 32 (!). so looked at alternatives and booked with Rios, which is much less expensive. The differences - rafting great... More

We went on the 3 day/2night rafting tour with the stay at the lodge. You raft into the lodge the first day through fairly easy rapids (mostly class II with an occasional III). Only took us a few hours to get to the lodge. The lodge is amazing with an off the grid feel while having some of the creature... More

We did the 2 day/1 night on the Pacuare river and LOVED this lodge. We had the entire place to ourselves! Our guide Henry was fantastic! He made a very delicious brekfast, lunch, and dinner! I dont think we have ever slept so soundly. This was a nice quiet jungle escape that we look forward to doing again!

We were just recently on a 4 days/3 nights rafting tour/stay at the logde. It was great rafting and we were so amazed when we arrived at the lodge. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Our multi-day trips treat you to an exceptional adventure vacation experience combining rafting on the Pacuare with a stay at our remote "Eco-Lodge", tucked in the rainforest on the banks of the river. A trip of pure magic, unsurpassed beauty, wildlife and ravishing rapids; Pacuare is the quintessential tropical river. Along its course lay several densely vegetated gorges, which shelter, jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloths and an incredible variety of birds. Also found within these gorges, is some of the best whitewater in the world. "at its lodge, hammock-filled, thatch-roofed huts, offering dorm and honeymoon style rooms, surround an even larger thatch-roofed lodge net to a gurgling waterfall linking the huts to the lodge’s open-walled dining room, bar and reading room are bamboo-railed boardwalks that make wearing anything but river sandals sacrilegious. Don’t get so comfortable in the reading room’s hammock; however, that you miss the cocktail-hour bell; in true jungle fashion, all apres-paddle drinks are served in coconut shells." (Paddler magazine article, jan./feb.1999, edb). ... more   less
