We stopped that The Rose and Crown after a cycle around the reservoirs. We were a bit late and lunch service as almost over but the staff accommodated us for lunch and we had a lovely meal, sitting by the fire. It was so cosy could have gone to sleep right there. The waitress very so friendly and cheery. Would... More

We stayed here on the way to Northumberland for just one night. Quite simply, the rooms are lovely - to a very high standard yet homely and the pub food is fantastic. At breakfast, we were offered a vast choice and the 'full english' was a triumph. The lady on reception was very helpful indeed - gave us some advice... More

We stayed at the Rose and Crown on a trip back from Edinburgh, and were so glad we did. A gorgeous Country Inn, situated in the middle of an picturesque village. From the moment we arrived everyone was incredibly welcoming. The room was immaculate (and much nicer than the far more expensive hotel we stayed at in Edinburgh!). Dinner was... More

Just back from our annual holiday in a converted barn at Romaldkirk Holiday Cottages. The picturesque village with lovely walks from the door (usually to pubs!) and the Rose and Crown across the green make for an excellent week. This year we enjoyed the evening flocking of the starlings to trees in the village and went to see the six... More

We stayed at the lovely Rose & Crown Hotel as a last minute one-night getaway. The characterful hotel is situated in a beautiful rural village, just a few miles from the pretty town of Barnard Castle. After enjoying a pre-dinner drink in the snug bar area, we had dinner in the wood-panelled dining room which was bathed in atmospheric candle... More

We have just returned from our fourth stay at this lovely hotel. We were delighted to see that there is now only one menu - previously there had been one for the restaurant and one for the brasserie. In the old days you could not mix and match which was a shame. The quality of the food has also improved... More

Excellent three night bargain break in Teesdale. Friendly welcome. Lovely room on top floor of main building, nice bathroom, high standard of housekeeping, breakfasts and dinners good quality. Only faults were not very good pillows, and chaotic and slow service at breakfast one day. I suspect they may have been short in the kitchen though they didn't say.

I have had lunch in the restaurant of this hotel on a number of occasions. It is invariably excellent and this visit was no dofferent to previous occasions. The friendly welcome from the staff gets everything off to a good start and the food on offer is excellent and reasonable priced. The hotel is high in the Tees valley and... More

Excellent Inn, with really good service from the staff. They all work hard to address customer's requirements. Well done! However, the food was something of a disappointment. I note in earlier comment the owner had hoped this issue might be a 'one-off glitch'. I wonder if a bit of a re-think isn't necessary? We found the restaurant dinner a little... More

Glad you enjoyed your visit and the service but sorry to hear that the menu was not to your liking. We are moving to a brand new menu next month which will offer good variety and will hopefully suit all tastes and requirements from more hearty and rustic meals to more refined dishes. More
