Stayed in monks cottage, round the back of main building. It has a couple of rooms upstairs with a lounge, honesty bar and boot room for all residents use downstairs. Not used by anyone else while we were there. Courtyard rooms opposite look really pretty from outside with lots of hanging baskets. There are also rooms and another residents lounge... More

We stayed at The Rose and Crown on the Sleepy Sunday offer ...which is afternoon tea on arrival, overnight stay, dinner, two glasses of complementary fizz, breakfast. I can honestly say it was the most amazing start to our break in the North East. I couldn't fault it - beautiful location, peaceful, fabulous hotel, well decorated, classy, our room was... More

Comfortable, clean and elegant rooms probably more akin to a four star hotel. Super bathrooms with high quality bathroom accessories. We had rooms in the courtyard which had their own sense of understated elegance - and privacy. However, our stay was somewhat blighted by the fact that, for family reasons we were unable to have dinner (a fact explained before... More

Thank you for your positive comments, however, I would just like to clarify the facts regarding your negative ones. You were advised before making your booking that we only offer dinner inclusive rates on a Saturday night. As you were attending a wedding reception in the area you would have known from the outset that you would not be taking... More

Called in on a hike and had a great lunch with excellent real ale and very friendly service. Quite a lot of choice for light lunches . Sat outside in the sun - what could be better than a great English inn?

We took advantage of the special "Sleepy Sunday" offer at this wonderful hotel in the delightful village of Romaldkirk in Teesdale, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Checking in on Sunday afternoon we were greeted with tea and scones with jam and cream in the residents lounge along with the Sunday paper! How indulgent! Our room was extremely comfortably fitted... My husband and I went to The Rose & Crown, which we found through the Living North Good Food magazine. They managed to find us a table in the bar on a Saturday evening on very short notice. The pub is in a lovely Teesdale village and they had an easy to choose from menu, from which we had the... More

Returned to the Rose & Crown after many years to find it even better than I remembered. Warm and helpful email/phone exchanges during booking and friendly greeting on arrival. Rooms excellent, food great, brilliant information on th area, particularly walks, bar meals good while restaurant menu enticing. Great value. Trip with friends but would be great for romantic break too!

The Patterdale Terrier and I had a great three nights here. Sat Nav finds it through the country lanes and congested Middleton and other small interesting towns. The Rose and Crown is superbly managed with very friendly staff. You have an A4 Morning Post at breakfast with to-days and tomorrows weather forecast and suggestion for 'The Daily Walk'. 2 miles...
