Won a one night stay including dinner & breakfast in an internet competition with Durham Tourist Board. Our room in the courtyard was very comfortable & the en-suite was fully tiled, spacious & contained top class toiletries . There was also a table & two chairs outside. The hotel itself ,especially the dining area is very attractive & the food... More

I was disappointed with my last stay. This was always my first choice when visiting the area - which I did a lot. However, it has changed hands and the main difference is that the restaurant menu is the same all week, whereas it used to change daily. The hotel has lost some of its sparkle. The rooms are charming,... More

We stayed at this destination pub recently and were very impressed with the friendliness/helpfulness of the staff, the quality/presentation of the food, and the standard of the rooms. This is definitely not a cheap destination as the rooms are hotel priced but their standard matches most quality hotels. The food however, is hotel quality without being similarly priced, and the... My wife and I enjoyed three nights at the Rose and Crown. We had a room in the courtyard, a few yards from the hotel. There are five such rooms in an attractive single storey building, ours was a superior double. A very comfortable room with furniture, decoration etc. of high quality (e.g Bose sound system), The en-suite bathroom and... More

We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was a twin bedded suite on the second floor with beautiful views across the village green and to the church. The room was of an excellent standard and very spacious. We had dinner in the hotel both evenings and the food was superb and there... More

Stayed for 3 nights recently in a superior room in the stables area behind the hotel. Very comfortable beds and room clean. Friendly staff, food generally very good although did have overcooked steak one night. Had travelled for 6 hrs and too tired to send it back. WiFi didn't work in the bedroom, had to keep up with work in... More

I stayed here for one night while travelling for work, as it was recommended by a colleague and it far exceeded any expectations. The staff were welcoming, extremely friendly and professional. The rooms more than adequately equipped and the food is of a very high standard. The staff even returned my phone charger by post having left it behind. A... More

Having stayed here a number of years ago, we were obviously concerned that it might disappoint this time given that the inn had changed hands. We were delighted that the quality of our stay had not fallen, but was probably better. The rooms are very good, even if one risks the possibility of a brain concision from hitting ones head... More

A lovely pub/hotel/restaurant in a fantastic location. The service throughout was first class, as good as I have experienced in the UK. The food was very good - high quality 3 course dinner and a good wine list - and our room was very comfortable, spacious and quiet. Highly recommended

this was our second visit to this lovely old hotel. we stayed in a superior room (11) which has a lovely comfy bed and an outlook over the village. It is quiet and peaceful. the bathroom however is small and tires. the shower is dated and if you were tall you would have trouble as it is over the bath.... More
