Having stayed at this beautiful little country pub hotel for a long weekend a year or two ago, my wife and I went out of our way on a journey further south to stay once again for a night. The hotel has changed hands since our last stay, but remains charming as ever, with charming and comfortable rooms (we like... More

The hotel is all you would expect of an old coaching inn: plenty of polished brass and oak paneling in the public areas. The rooms, however, are very much up-to-date, well-appointed and very comfortable. One could not wish for more friendly, attentive and obliging staff. There is a good atmosphere in the bar and excellent food in the dining room.

We recently stayed at the Rose and Crown with good friends; this stay was a belated birthday treat from them to my wife. Setting: a perfect country retreat set in the picturesque village of Romaldskirk - the R&C is located in the centre of the village and just oozes that traditional feel. Ambiance: from the moment you step through the... More

We had arranged a surprise 50th for our friend which involved an overnight stay and dinner. We hadn't visited the R&C for a number of years and it was exactly the same as we remembered it especially the lovely sung bar. The staff were so attentive and helpful during our stay and made us feel very welcome throughout - Interestingly... More

Won a one night stay including dinner & breakfast in an internet competition with Durham Tourist Board. Our room in the courtyard was very comfortable & the en-suite was fully tiled, spacious & contained top class toiletries . There was also a table & two chairs outside. The hotel itself ,especially the dining area is very attractive & the food... More

I was disappointed with my last stay. This was always my first choice when visiting the area - which I did a lot. However, it has changed hands and the main difference is that the restaurant menu is the same all week, whereas it used to change daily. The hotel has lost some of its sparkle. The rooms are charming,... More

We stayed at this destination pub recently and were very impressed with the friendliness/helpfulness of the staff, the quality/presentation of the food, and the standard of the rooms. This is definitely not a cheap destination as the rooms are hotel priced but their standard matches most quality hotels. The food however, is hotel quality without being similarly priced, and the... My wife and I enjoyed three nights at the Rose and Crown. We had a room in the courtyard, a few yards from the hotel. There are five such rooms in an attractive single storey building, ours was a superior double. A very comfortable room with furniture, decoration etc. of high quality (e.g Bose sound system), The en-suite bathroom and... More

We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was a twin bedded suite on the second floor with beautiful views across the village green and to the church. The room was of an excellent standard and very spacious. We had dinner in the hotel both evenings and the food was superb and there... More

Stayed for 3 nights recently in a superior room in the stables area behind the hotel. Very comfortable beds and room clean. Friendly staff, food generally very good although did have overcooked steak one night. Had travelled for 6 hrs and too tired to send it back. WiFi didn't work in the bedroom, had to keep up with work in... More
