This is a great countryside inn. It's not a 5 star chain hotel, and it doesn't want, or need to be. It's a relaxed bolt hold in the beautiful Newlands Valley providing clean, comfortable accommodation, wholesome English breakfasts, a good dinner menu, and a range of good ales and European lagers. It will meet all your expectations if you're there to... More

Ive been to this pub several times over the years under different owners and generally been happy with the food and drink. The location is stunning. However, after a trip on Friday 12th July I must admit to being appalled at the attitude of the staff when my partner found a live slug in her salad. When she took it... More

Very sad to hear this. We do try our best to train the staff to the highest of standards, unfortunately on this occasion we have let you down. We will use this to ensure it does not happen again. Regards B henderson More

Overall it was a great little place, we only stayed a night but everything was very nice and straight forward. The only comment would be that the breakfast plates/cutlery could have been a bit cleaner but nothing major. But most of all they accept pets which is great!

We encountered a problem finding the Swinside Inn (not to be confused with the more upmarket Swinside Lodge not far away) and using the post code - CA12 5UE - for our sat nav took us to a small car park at the foot of Cat Bells and an obvious starting point for walkers. When we did find it and... More

We visited the Lake District in April with gales blowing outside, we had two evening meals at The Swinside Inn and for us the main course was sufficient. The ample walkers portions were well cooked, but not cheffy in their presentation. The beer served on tap was from a local brewery and suited our palate. The main Inn was typical... More

Small, cozy inn with friendly, most helpful staff located the a breathless setting of Newlands Valley. Our room was spacious and clean, looking out at the hills across including the Barrow, Catbells Pike and Causey. The pub food was both tasteful and plentiful. The English breakfast was too large for me, but they replaced it happily with ham and cheese.... More

I first visited the Swinside Inn back in the 1980's and for many years came back to stay on a regular basis attracted by the fantastic location as a base for fellwalking in the NW Lakes, the food, the beer, the hospitality of the staff and the general comfortable feeling about the place. After a few 'iffy' comments a number... More

We have eaten here a few times now and never disappointed. It is in a lovely setting, close to Braithwaite. Service is good too. we decided to come here after trying a few others in this area for lunch, only to find none open!!! We knew Swinside was good, so drove here as knew it would be open for lunches.

Found this little isolated gem after a longish morning walk with only 2 miles to walk back to Keswick. It is situated in an elevated position in the valley and has wonderful views to Catbells and the surrounding area. We sat at the expansive outside terrrace with aforementioned views giving the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere. Mind... More
