There are two parts to this hotel. The expensive rooms overlook the pool and the river, the cheaper ones are over the road and don't really overlook much. We swam daily in the lovely pool, which was the main reason why we booked this hotel. There is another hotel with a pool but not as big nor with as good... More

Pon Areana is a little bit of luxury , but after a traumatic crossing into Laos from Cambodia, we thought we deserved it. The rooms are lovely, well kept linen changed daily, and a beautiful infinity pool overlooking the Mekong, where you can swim at sunset, or alternatively have a beerlao on one of the many terraces in the one... At the time of our stay access to the river was by small ferries only consequently the island was very quiet with little tourism. A bridge from the mainland is being built and once this is opened the nature of the island is very likely to change. The main building at Pon Arena Hotel is in a lovely position overlooking... More

When we arrivée, we asked for a good view, being in An Island And being on top on the river but the guy answered that to have a good view on the river, there would be the new building on top of tu swing ing pool for 40$ moré a night! like paying doble. Very bad policy!!! No restaurant at... More

We chose this hotel for its pool, as it is the only hotel in the area with a pool. And, unlike what is written in some guidebooks, it is a real full size pool (with a very nice view). Our room (1st floor on the Mekong River with private balcony) was pretty big and fully equipped. The staff was very... More

a modern and nice hotel with a real swimming pool in front of Mekong. Air conditioning, nice modern decoration The restaurant is not at the level of the hotel and it is not very good. It is better to stay on traditional simple Laos dishes

Don Khong has no major tourist attractions. It is a very quiet island, in respect to atmosphere totally different from the nearby party island of Don Det. On Don Khong you can do little else than cycling and enjoy the beautiful views of the Mekong. For me a very attractive destination but I do not think that applies to everyone.... More

We booked & pre-payed a river view room and informed the hotel that my husband does not manage stairs. We were shown a first floor room in the old part. Not possible. We ended up with no river view in the same area on the ground floor with a view of the school. Not quite what we had dreamed of.... More

By far the nicest place we stayed in our month in SE Asia. New construction, tasteful, a comfortable bathroom with an actual bathtub! There was sawing going on constantly on their new building (the one with the pool), which was annoying. However, we enjoyed relaxing on the island so much after a few hectic weeks of travelling, we didn’t want... More

Looking over the pool to the river, made a lovely view and setting for this hotel, especially for seeing the beautiful sunrise in the morning over the Mekong. Good sized rooms were nicely furnished and had style. Breakfast was included in the price and offered eggs, good coffee, toasted baguette with butter and jam, fruit juice drink, nice flap jacks...
