Me and my boyfriend ate here for his birthday and we were treated to an amazing meal. We got a table in the conservatory and although it was cloudy got access to some sneak peaks of the fabulous view. Although it wasn't cheap, the food was good value for money and the service was excellent - it is a pet... More

We stayed for one night and loved it. The food is highly recommended in the good food guide and we weren't disappointed. We had the six course vegetarian tasting menu and everything was really tasty. Service was spot on - efficient and friendly. Breakfast was the best I've ever had. If we visit the area again, we'd definitely stay here.

We visitd the Cottage in the Wood some six weeks ago and was so totaly blown away with the quality of the food that we decided to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary there. Having been very fortunate to have eaten in some of the finest eateries in the UK we would place this establishment alongside the very best. Well done... More

It is a rare occasion that my friend and I are really quiet.....even during the most strenuous climbs of our 3 day Lakeland break we can usually keep chatting but on numerous occasions at The Cottage, we were speechless.......the food is really THAT good! The presentation is just a start but the combinations of flavours are some of the most remarkable... What a wonderful stay! My wife and I stayed 3 nights at the cottage in the woods while we toured northern England this May. The staff, after a 3 + hour long drive, welcomed us with opened arms with tea and cake while we relaxed from our long drive. Tom, the best waiter ever, was so friendly. He took the... More

Amazing food, Attentive service and beautiful location. We stayed for the valentines break and can't wait to come back. It is expensive but worth it. Especially for the food. The rooms are small but that is what you would expect for a cottage. Fabulous!

We arrived on the Friday afternoon and we were shocked by how lovely the seating area is in the hotel (you should have more pictures on your website BTW if you're reading Kath) and we were then shown to our room. I'd secretly upgraded our room and we were given "Oak". My wife was very surprised and we both loved... More

We can not speak more highly of this amazing place! The staff, location and setting is truly amazing! The best part though by far is the food we ate in two nights and the food was certainly up there with the Michelin restaurants we have been lucky enough to eat at. The breakfasts were also scrummy - we stayed in... More

Our first trip to the Lakes and we really wanted to make it a special holiday. Boy was this special! "The Cottage" is situated amongst the most stunning scenery we have ever witnessed and as keen walkers, we could easily have spent our stay enjoying the variety of woodland and mountain walks, however with only two days to spare (not... My partner and I arrived and were seated for a pre-drink. We chose the preseco and gin which was a lovely combination. We decided to chose the 'taster menu' with the wine options. The food was absolutely delicious and I truly think this restaurant could be heading for a Michelin star. Every plate served was described to us in detail... More
