I have stayed in Braithwaite on holidays at least five times over a period of 25+ years and have always called in to the Royal Oak for both meals and drinks, but in my opinion their standard of customer service has dipped to the extent that I seriously think I shan't be returning. When I was in the Lake District... More

Great welcoming pub with super food. Good choice on the menu and portions are generous. Delicious puddings too. New Year's Eve firework extravaganza not to be missed. Also has accommodation which is perfect for walkers.

Second stay here. The room was up lots of stairs. The first time I had a much nicer room The pub was busy, food good and a lovely open fire. Like the fact that they offer smaller portions. The breakfast was the best of the trip. Staff very nice. We got a price of £30 each ( Winter rate) which... More

We were in keswick for just 24 hours and was recommended to try this Inn. It was busy with a good atmosphere and is obviously very popular. The drinks are well priced and the food excellent. The menu caters for the very hungry, not so hungry and kids. We had food from the not so hungry but still had plenty... More

We went to the Royal Oak again this week. The veggie korma actually had identifiable pieces of sweet potato, spinach and chick peas in it. This contrasts very favourably with the usual offerings made to those of us round here who chose not to eat meat. My husband though that the chicken with Stilton sauce was very good too. What... We have drank and ate here several times over the last few years when staying at the nearby campsite. The pub has a fantastic warm atmosphere with an open fire and real ale. The price is reasonable and the food nice. The only let down is the silly rule over dogs only being allowed when no food is being served.... More

Almost don't want to say how fantastic this pub is in case you all want to rush there and we have to fight to book when we want to go !! This homely cosy pub never fails to please. The welcome from Terry and all his staff is warm and friendly and continued throughout our five night stay - nothing... More

My sister's been going here every autumn for years, and it is a brilliant place. downstairs it's a proper English Pub - no piped music, professional bar staff, nice atmosphere. the restaurant meals are available in a very pleasant dining room, and the bar (where we ate), and the food is excellent! in fact we ate there every night. the... The Royal Oak is a brilliant pub for a meal with a brilliant atmosphere. Although it was full to capacity, the meal was ordered and delivered in excellent time. The food was excellent. The staff were friendly and, what I think was the landlord, was friendly, amusing and it was a pleasure to be there. Definitely worth a visit.

6 of us ate here as we were camping at a nearby campsite. Although we sat just outside the restaurant as the pub was busy, we asked the waitress if we could order at our table to which she responded with a grunt that we must order at the bar (a little daft considering there were 6 of us and...
