My partner and two close friends stayed at the Chateau du Portail for 3 nights over Easter, partly to celebrate my birthday but mostly to relax and enjoy a bit of the lovely cuisine and wine in the region. We've visited the region before but opted to try somewhere new as grown a bit tired of the accommodation options in... More

We arrived cold and fed up to the warmest welcome we have ever received anywhere in the world. Claude Hubert was at the gate to greet us as cherished friends (we hadn't met previously), and so our stay at this incredible hotel began. The chateau was a warm haven of hospitality in the freezing French countryside. There were blazing fires... More

We had a four week holiday in France in September 12, and this was definitely a highlight. We were warmly greeted on arrival by Claude with a delicious mid afternoon snack and white wine by the pool and it just kept getting better. A spacious room, comfortable bed and an ensuite with a bath tub to relax in after a... More

I was in this chateau 3 days including Christmas with my couple and it was a unique experience. More than being in a hotel, we felt like being in the house of a cousin. Claude's care of us as a closed relative and he made our stay unforgettable. The house is full of old family furniture and priceless things. the... More

To call this place a 'B and B' is like calling the QE2 a trans-Atlantic ferry. Every room is unique, every wall tells a story. This is Claude's house. Four generations of furnishing, artefacts and history are crammed into a a lovely, compact Chateau surrounded by a moat, parts of which were built 500 years ago. He makes you feel... More

For my birthday, my girlfriend took us to this chateau for a night in the master suite. Everything about this place was romantic, charming, and everything that we could have asked for. Claude, the chateau host, was exceptionally kind and accommodating with everything. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with glasses of champagne and a warm fire. Even at the... More

My wife and I just finished our fourth visit at Chateau du Portail, and each visit has been memorable. The owner of the chateau, Claude Hubert, is the consummate host and is passionate about making each visitor's experience special. The chateau is superbly decorated with wonderful antiques and has the taste, style and warmth that is often missing from the... More

This place is just absolutely perfect! Wonderful location, excellently maintained. The owner Claude makes the visit just that little bit better with his excellent attention to detail and wonderful cooking. Could not recommend it any higher.

I had a few friends visiting me from NY this week and we decided to share the Loire valley with them. It is such a fun place to go for a weekend away from Paris. The great Chateaux to visit, wonderful food and wine and beautiful countryside. We happened to hear about the Chateau du Portail and luckily had the... More
