The best thing about the Castle is its position which is pretty much right at the edge of the beach and reef break of Laguide. The managers family still own the house which they have used since the 1920s and it retains much of its character.Surfing in Portugal has not been around that long relatively but it probably started in... Location The surf castle is directly at the cliff before you enter the peninsula of Baleal among with walking distance 2-3 minutes to great beaches, in particular nice for surfing. You can access it by car from Lisbon airport in about 80 minutes. Taxi is about 80-90€ one way or take a bus into Peniche from Lisbon at around 10€.... More

Unfortunately the surf castle turned out to be my worst travel experience ever. A friend and I were really intrigued by the photos on the website. When we got there the place indeed looked like shown, but the owner had overbooked the place so he put us in his neighbors house which was in a terrible state! And he didn't... More

The nice thing about surfcastle is its laid back, relaxed atmosphere. Yes, the rooms are quite small and essential and you have to share the bathroom. But you have breakfast overlooking the ocean and if you want to surf you are provided with everything, including lessons. The beach is at a walking distance, very convenient. The hostel is always full... More

Surfcastle is very special place. It was more than we expected, being aware that we are going to a hostel, after all. But, since we arrived we picked up on the house vibe and just went with it for 8 days. We specifically wanted room overlooking the beach (rooms 1 or 2) and only this alone was worthy the money... Although this building might have a spire, like a castle, it is NOT a castle. It's a hostel. The rooms were decent, the bathrooms were clean, the people (guests and hosts) were friendly, and the breakfast was alright. BUT, its not what we expected for 120 euros/night! The wifi was weak on the 2nd floor (where most of the rooms... More

We decided to go with the Surfcastle based on some of the reviews, checked out their web-page and liked the photos. The reality is however different. It's a glorified youth hostel for the price of a nice vacation or hotel room. The bed is a terrible spring bed and rather on the small side for a couple (and it squeaks).... More

What makes this place great is the friendly staff, and the other people staying there. The group vibe can really be great, or just good. Overall I'm giving this place a 4, because I had a great time and would go back in a heartbeat. The view is amazing, its right above the beach on a bluff (hill side). You... More

SurfCastle review. The good: * nicely decorated house with spectacular views. * great people. I’ve been to a few surf camps, and the atmosphere here beats a lot of them. The bad: * way too expensive: for that money you ought to get your own toilet/shower at the very least. * the intermediate lessons were disappointing: we were mixed with... More

Depending on how you look at it, this is either a charming old manor house B&B or a really, really upscale surf camp. Or both. The rooms in the main house are sparsely appointed but full of character, the bed was comfortable, and the view unbeatable - It's right on the point - any closer and you'd be sleeping in... More
