When we arrived at Hacienda La Isla, it looked exotic and wonderful. This proves looks can be deceiving! The rooms smelled musty and had strong air fresheners hid in the top of the wardrobe. The bathroom had holes in the wall where the pipes came in but so did toads and other critters. There was no air conditioning which would... More

This small hotel is a great place to stay when visiting Sarapiqui. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, we had room 7 (The Chapel) which had a lovely balcony. The property has a trail in its grounds, which we walked twice. There are lots of birds around, including Aracari, parrots and Passerini's Tanager. We were visited by howler monkeys: a... More

First, the Proprietor, Jean-Pierre, was a great host and a wealth of information of what was going on in the area. His staff, we were served by Shirley most days, so knew her best, were great, pleasant, and professional. I've traveled to Europe and Australia many times, as well as China, Taiwan, and throughout the US - so I have... More

We originally planned to stay for 3 nights but extended our stay as we enjoyed the place and the people so very much. We stayed at the chapel room which is the only one with a king size bed and it also afforded the most space and the most privacy. The location is perfect for day trips to Tirimbina or... More

We were drawn to Hacienda La Isla Lodge as we explored our options for adventures in and around rainforests close to San Jose. Braulio Carillo National Park is only 45 minutes from San Jose and accessible by good highways. When we arrived at Hacienda La Isla we knew we had made a good choice. We were greeted by Jean Pierre... More

unsophisticated but delightful eco-lodge in extensive grounds. Opoen air dinner enlivened by the resident cayman, rail bird and basilisk lizard. We regretted that our busy schedule did not give us enough time to explore the many trails around the hotel. we were awakened at 5am the first morning by howler monkeys really living up to their name outside our door.... John=Pierre is a lovely, friendly, interesting man who gives alot of attention to his guests needs, and is passionate about the environment. The food is excellent, and there are some interesting trails around.A sighting of a cayman by the restaurant is almost guaranteed. The rooms are very basic - the partition toilet/bathroom was not to our taste.

This was the second main stop on o ur trip to Costa Rica. The accommodation is basic but the setting is amazing and the friendliness of the family and staff are what makes this place special. The food we had on our 3 night stay was extremely good. There is a limited choice as it is a very small establishment... More

Due to the fact that our brandnew Garmin GPS was pre-set to Jamaica in stead of Costa Rica, we at first could not find this hotel. The description we got in our tour-pack lead us via Horquetas to Sarapique city, about 25 km too far North. We noticed how poorly people on the street and even the police speak English... More

We stayed a night here on our way from San Jose to Sarapiqui. On the way, we visited the Braulio Carillo National Park and we wanted a place to spend a night before heading to OTS the next day. Frankly this place is near to both but we planned our trip in a way that we don't have to go... More
