Tirimbina is a wonderful place to experience the rainforest. Great trails to walk , night hikes, birding tours, wonderful educational programs, peaceful and comfortable accommodations. The guides are passionate and extremely knowledgable. The food however is mediocre and pricey. Breakfast is included but lunch and dinner will cost $15 each. Take a cab just down the road to a local... More

Beautifully located and very peacefull. It has very interesting tours. Did the chocolate tour myself which was a very nice experience. Did some of the walks through the beautiful jungle. Would recommend it to anyone.

I picked my daughter up at the airport at 1:00 and was taking the chocolate tour by that afternoon. They did a great job demostrating the traditional method of making chocolate and encouraged audience participation. You even get to taste some. You are sitting in the middle of old cacao planation, surrounded by rainforest. I watched an agouti. The bird... More

Tirimbina is a wonderful place to visit. In two days we did the chocolate tour in the morning, the frog tour in the evening and the birdtour early in the morning. The tours were really interesting, facilitated by enthousiastic guides. The selfguided tours are easily doable with a map and clearly indicaded trails. The rooms are basic but clean. The... More

Tirimbina Lodge, Sarapaqui - 4.5 out of 5 This lodge was a bit more basic but suited us because we got to go out with the scientists – watched the release of a raccoon from the mammal trap and went out with fellow Lepidopterist. The hanging bridge leading to Tirimbina's own reserve was a particular highlight, especially when we were... More

Yes all the reviews you have read in TA are true! Yes not a luxury hotel. But a unique adventure with comfort amenities for $90 plus tax ($15x2 entrance fee and $10x2 breakfast) for a base cost of $40/night. Rooms: ours single + Q, yes the Q is next to the wall. We just moved the night stand to another... More

The research center hotel is a fine place to stay and enjoy the nature of the area. The night walk is always a nice evening activity. Staff are helpful and friendly. Rooms are clean and fairly large, although they can be a bit noisy if your neighbors are enjoying the evening later than you

We are rather puzzled by some of the rave reviews of this place. Maybe it depends where else you have been and where you have stayed. We stayed in a "de luxe" room, which was pretty basic and over-priced compared with other lodges we have stayed in. Our room was large and very simply furnished. The beds were not ver... More

The actual accommodations here are just ok. But don't let that stop you from coming here. It was one of our favorite stops of our whole two week trip! The rooms are large, air-conditioned, clean, but plainly decorated. The beds were only average comfortable. But the patio was great to sit out on and watch the many different species of... More

La Tirimbina is a fantastic "natural" location to stay in Costa Rica. By natural I mean that the priority of this ecolodge is ecotourism. This means the accommodations are comfortable, but this is not a resort, nor would I want it to be. The rooms are comfortable with bunk beds, air conditioning, daily maid service, a shower (using solar warmed... More
