Simple, spacious rooms in this old hotel directly on the Rhein, at the entrance to the charming medieval district of Stein am Rhein. Hotel retains many historic features, while providing very comfortable beds and friendly service. Plentiful breakfast. Wonderful to look out directly onto the Rhein, and to have the peace of water right outside one's window. Stein am Rhein... More

The entire town of Stein am Rhein was built in the 1500's. Staying in this hotel, and in this town, was one of the nicest experiences we have ever had. Sure, wifi was limited, and some of the items in the rooms were dated -- but everything about it was so old, and interesting, and cool! There is no "Front... More

We would agree with every other review really. The manageress was rude and unhelpful. The first room we were offered had a torn shower curtain and the wifi did not reach the second room on the third floor. The room has certainly not been redecorated since 1960 and is looking very threadbare. The low level of lighting is typical in... More

This place is absolutely magical. Our room overlooked the Rhein River and the hotel was full of surprises - yes, including a stuffed polar bear and suits of armor. If you're looking for something slick with a concierge at the front desk, this isn't it. This is a family-run hotel, built, I believe, in 1550 and full of charm and... More

Stein am Rhein is quite lovely, but this poor hotel needs help. Other reviewers have nailed it: outdated, spartan accommodations, poorly laid out (where is reception/check-out?), and although the location is superb (right on the bank of the Rhein), if you open your windows for cool air at night, the traffic over the bridge never stops! I will give them... More

For a traditional Swiss country inn with wonderful location in historic own, you can do no better. The sign outside states 3 stars- I would put this at 2 stars. Unclear where reception is on arrival so waiters are called to find relevant staff. Given large key to room - not self locking. You need to take this if you... More

Hotel is ideally situated, literally everything on the doorstep & right on the river. The bedroom was large & clean but seriously needed updating - shower room & decor. Public rooms quirky with suits of armour & stuffed polar bear. The evening meal, included in our tour, was adequate but we had a much better meal (also part of the... More

We walked in from the train station, no pre-booking. We were allowed to view the room. It was like staying at your grandmothers - older decor, but clean. Our room was quite spacious. (Incidentally, getting to the town is not well marked from the station. When you exit the stub road from the stain, proceed down the road you see... More

If you appreciate historic and character buildings, this is your hotel: 5 centuries old and you can still see and feel it all around you. Location is superb being right in the old town with the river running past you (we were taking photographs of the fish in the river from our room). Unfortunately for the 2 nights we were... More

The hotel enjoys prime location directly at the Rhine river and a stone's throw from the old town which is an absolute must to see for anyone visiting Switzerland. This is not a place with many stars and a lot of trimmings; well it is some 500 years old, a good hotel with reasonable prices. However, what is spectacular is... More
