im not sure why this place isn't rated more highly. We had spent one night at the hotel but they didn't have a room for another. We moved over to The Wilderness and for quite a bit less had a large comfortable bed sitting room on the end corner of the building - nice and quiet and we could park... More

We have had the pleasure of staying at Wilderness Backpackers a good number of times and always have received great service. This stay was no exception our unit 12, it was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a Queen size bed and en-suite A shared kitchen with all the facilities is a few steps down the hall as well as a... We got into a car accident on way to franz joseph near Haast, and needed a place to crash without any of our belongings which were stuck in the car deep in the woods. The moment we came into the motel to explain our situation the owner just completely outdid himself to help and alleviate our stress and anxiety. He... More

Stayed here on the way to Burt Munro rally. Clean tidy double room with shared bathroom. Kitchen was clean and tidy too. Friendly kiwi staff who were very helpful. Excellent rates and we will stay there again on the way home.

Stayed here one night, Ollie the boos was welcoming and seemed very laid back and easy going. Our motel room was modern and comfortable, though not particularly spacious. All very clean and well presented, flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, though no kitchenette or fridge. Not sure why it attracts some terrible reviews, mainly from backpackers? Are back... More

All the trouble comes from the owner. While the place is clean, he is the biggest jerk, client-suspicious-will-kick-you-out-at-check-out-time idiot. My boyfriend was ill the morning we were suppose to leave. We had to have a huge fight so we could use the bathroom for 15 minutes after check out time without paying extra. He is of no help and makes... More

We got stuck in Haast because the road to Wanaka was closed at 4pm. We decided to stay at the Wilderness Backpackers because our "Rough Guide to New Zealand" book described this place as a "welcoming, great value spot", it couldn't be farther from the truth. Instantly we got an eerie feeling when we arrived outside like we were in... More

(just behind accommodation). then settled bill, 70 nzd, room for 2, twin bed, patio doors. had armchairs in room, would of been better off, more useful with piece furniture/unit of... More

This place is the WORST place that we have ever come across - we left after 20 minutes because the place is filthy. It is a disgrace that BBH actually list this hostel. On arrival you are greeted by a big sign saying 'Smile you are on CCTV' - this instantly made me think that the place must be unsafe... More

Great place to stay in haast - very friendly clean and feeling very welcome. A must place to stay while in haast!! Haast is a beautiful part of the South Island, very isolated. We got stuck with car problems and the the owner helped us with our car. If if wasn't for him we would be buggered! The only friendly... More
