+ breathtaking view + good service + great food - big high priced, but that is normal for a Restaurant with such a view in Switzerland Overall: You have to go there, one of the most amazing places in Switzerland. The view is just amazing! Try the cheese Rösti!

Berggasthaus Aescher is a bit off the beaten track but is an absolute gem of a place to stay. Friendly staff and great beers and wines, make even the coldest night a treat. A small, intimate Gasthaus on the hillside/cliff side below Ebenalp. Believe me, the scenery is SPECTACULAR. Perched on the edge of a cliff on the side of... More

It was a nice experience to climb up to Aesher haus. It took us about 2 hours and a half to get there as we are city people who don't hike every weekend as local people do. The view is good, but traditional swiss meal "rösti" is excellent there. Highly recommended.

I found this place after quite some research on the internet. The pictures were simply awesome and the reviews extraordinary. I simply had to go visit this place! We travelled as a family with two pre-teens. Reaching the place itself is a journey in itself, with a drive to Weissbad, the cable car ride up (extremely windy on top), the... More

I was here in 2005 on a Rick S. Trip. I loved the rosti so much that I had to bring my wife back on this trip. I have yet to find a place that can take potatoes and make them into such an excellent tasting meal (in the USA, they would be called hash browns)!! In Switzerland the dish... More

Having seen a picture of this place on 500 places to see before you die or something like that, I planned to try to get there. I am thrilled to say that the weather in Appenzellerland that day managed to hold off long enough for us to make our ascent up in the Ebenalp chairlift near Weissbad and then on... More

We stayed here overnight in May 2012. It was all we could of hoped for. My wife was cautioned there would be no shower or hairwashing that day so she was prepared ! If you like mild to moderate hiking and want to experience a little of the true Swiss mountain experience this has got it. If you like big... More

This wonderful little gem in the Alps is not to be missed. Berggasthaus means Mountain Guest House. It is carved out of the granite wall it sits against. But it is really a Matratzenlager (dormitory). It has several rooms of large mattresses that you throw your sleeping bag onto and bed down with others. Blankets are provided if needed. The... More

This is not a typical vacation experience for me, as I usually prefer 4 star hotels with spas. However, after seeing the pictures and reading about it, I knew it would be worth one night sharing a room and not having a shower. I was a little hesitant about leaving my suitcases in the car at the bottom of the... More
