Delicious food, cozy beds with warm duvets, clean amenities, lovely atmosphere with excellent service. Family friendly. Worth the hike! Best Rosti ever. Beautiful views and interesting history, including a historic chapel built into the caves. A fantastic hike from Weisssbad, and or take the lift to Ebenalp. We did the hike with our two children, 9 and 11 and they... More

This is definitely worth the trip. You take an aerial cable up and then hike down or you can opt to hike it from the bottom as well.(A bit longer) The food is simply amazing and all seasonal from the area. The family that run the place are super nice and speak English well enough. They serve the best Rosti... More

My wife was scoping out this place for some time, so we had to go. Went there on September 1 and we took the lift up the mountain and hiked down to the Berggasthaus. You can park your car at the station for the night. It is quite pricey to take the lift (it was about 55 Swiss Francs for... More

We visited here and hiked along the trail to the cliff side restaurant. Dreamy location on the side if a mountain, ate lunch (rosti) with a few Appenzeller beers- it was like being in another planet. One if the coolest places we have ever been, well worth the effort - very friendly people!

After a multi day hike we ended up at the Aescher. Restaurant is very busy in the evenings even frequented by locals, few tourists stayed overnight. Accommodation is basic, but clean. Roeschti in different variations was the choice for dinner and we all enjoyed.

Listen: this is a hostel. Do not come expecting comfort. The proprietors are kind, no-nonsense people who are very good at what they do. The restaurant is very good, classic -- on the expensive side -- but in all of this, you are paying for the SETTING. You are staying in one of the most surreal, magical places on Earth.... More

Fab location and experience, cosy place and good warm beds. Staying is an experience in itself and the views are amazing! Can get the cable car up and a 20 min downhill walk through some caves to get there. Food was lovely, we got the local rosti which was yummy! Prices we thought were very reasonable for the location and... More

I recently discovered this gem thanks to Rick Steves. After some more research, and finding out how easy this place is to reach, i decided to add this to my list of places to visit on a my first trip to Switzerland. I found out you can stay here overnight, and reserved a shared space by calling them direct. Reserved... More

Berggasthaus Aescher is a bit off the beaten track but is an absolute gem of a place to stay. Friendly staff and great beers and wines, make even the coldest night a treat. A small, intimate Gasthaus on the hillside/cliff side below Ebenalp. Believe me, the scenery is SPECTACULAR. Perched on the edge of a cliff on the side of... More
