we were a party of 6 and were seated inside the restaurant. We ordered from a standard lunch menu. No all items are available from the dinner menu, but plenty to choose from. it is made to order, so bring time.

What a great hotel and place. Felt like going back in time and sitting in the middle of the Lueneburger Heide. Great place to visit. Excellent breakfast service. Very friendly staff and it seams like there make an extra effort to make you feeling welcome.

The Schäferhof is a family owned and operated hotel and restaurant in the middle of the Lüneburger heathlands, just outside from the litte town Schneverdingen. The hotel is located a couple of hundred meters back from the L170 main road in the little of a fascinating nature. The house is a typical former farm and barn building with a spacious restaurant in the basement and guest rooms on the first floor. The rooms are cosy and clean. Due to the location it is a quite environment and even when the restaurant is packed, like on every weekend from spring to autumn, you can rest quietly in your room. The restaurant offers good local food for lunch and dinner and during the weekend the cake buffet in the afternoon is a must. For dinner it is recommended to book a table in the morning. Usually for house guests no tables are reserved automatically for lunch or dinner. The breakfast buffet offers a good choice of cereals, fruits, yogurt, eggs, cold cut, jam or jelly, cheese, bread and rolls. I would always book myself into this hotel and if you like to hike through the heathlands you can start from here many tours also without even getting close to your car. The price rate asked is not cheap but fair. The hosts and their staff are extremely friendly and helpful, even when the house and the restaurant is packed with guests all demanding attention and service.

Hotel Schaeferhof is absolutely beautiful! It was easy to get to, very near to the train station - approx 10 minutes by car or we walked in about 15 mins (we are fast walkers though!). We had a gorgeous room with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in! The breakfast is huge and delicious and as vegetarians we had plenty to eat. The dinner was great too. The dinner menu is all in German so the staff (who were all very friendly and helpful) translated into English for us. The owners, Katerina & Christian Glet are so lovely and speak perfect English so we could communicate with no problems. Christian picked us up from the train station when we arrived and brought us back when we were leaving. They really couldnt be nicer! Had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Hotel Schaeferhof!

We just spent a totally charming weekend at the Hotel Schaeferhof in Lueneberger Heide. The innkeeper, Mr. Glet, and his wife were super attentive and helpful, as were all of the other staff. Mr. Glet speaks perfect English, which was extremely helpful for our group and not so typical for that region of Germany. We were 7 people in total. My husband and I arrived after the rest of the group, and Mr.Glet offered to pick us up at the train station, which was such a pleasant surprise and totally above and beyond the call of duty! We hadn't intended on it, but we ended up eating breakfast and dinner at the hotel every day. The huge and delicious breakfast buffet was included in our room price. The dinner menu was very diverse and surprisingly tasty, and apparently the hotel is known throughout the region for its amazing desserts. The location is gorgeous, even in early spring. We hear it is most beautiful in the fall, when the heather is in full bloom... but we found it really beautiful in May as well. There weren't too many tourists, which made it even more charming and authentic. We rented bicycles and spent three days biking around the heath, then returning to Hotel Schaferhof for yummy meals and good company. We also went on a few great walks in the marshlands around the inn. It's a perfect place for a short family vacation, or perhaps even a romantic weekend getaway.
