The Baren was a good experience. Comparing it to other European guest houses, it was better than average. My family of 3 stayed in a family room that was adequate for our needs. Unfortunately we only had a view of an inner courtyard/alley that separated two wings of the hotel. The restaurant was the real highlight as the food was... more

We just returned from 3 nights at this beautiful property. It is an old building, and is like something out of a movie set, with big old exposed beams, creaky floors, beautiful windows looking out to the streets, and a lovely dining room. It has a great location in the upper part of the picturesque town. It is surrounded by... more

We stayed at Hotel zum Baeren for 2 nights Sept. 11 to 13 and had a very nice stay. We had their less expensive rooms Room 30 and 31 in the wing over the little bridge next to the cute Clock Tower. It was perfect for us. My father had a save parking spot in their private parking garage only... more

Without doubt, the best place to stay if you are in the area. Not that I have any experience of anywhere else – but it has to be impossible to find anywhere better! Immaculately clean, beautifully and tastefully decorated, excellent menu – we didn’t eat anywhere else – there was no point! An absence of the feeling that you are... more

We booked the hotel directly and decided to opt for the most expensive room, one of the tower rooms. The entire hotel, originally built in the 1200s, is incredibly charming. Although very old, the inside of the hotel has been extensively modernized and very tastefully decorated. Our room was extremely comfortable, with a very spacious bathroom. The tower part of... more

We only stayed two nights at the hotel, but wished we could have had longer. We expected it to be above average from reviews we had read and we were not disappointed. The exterior of the hotel is fairy-tale, and the interior is both quaint and attractive. Our room was very comfortable, charmingly olde worlde, and we loved the fact that... more

We just returned from a stay in this hotel. The hotel is very charming and clean. The staff are friendly and speak excellent English. The only downside was the lack of air conditioning in 90+ degree weather. A ceiling fan would have been a welcome relief from the heat. We didn't eat at the hotel except for breakfast, so I... more

Tranquil, comfortable and an excellent base for day trips on the Lake, to Zurich and to Austria. Wonderful staff and an exceptional international menu -- so unlike much North German cuisine.. Tip: From the airport at Friedrichshaven take bus 7394/7395 to Meersburg Kirche and the hotel is 100 metres down the hill. Public transport: trains, buses and river ferries are... more

I have taken 2 small groups to the Zum Baren and in both instances staying there was the highlight of the trip for everyone. The owner, Michael is an excellent host and chef. The building is of historical significance, so much so that it was on the German 20 mark note for many years. The staff was very accommodating and anxious... more
