Great hotel for tailfins the railway rooms are great if that's your thing. Very good staff, even with our poor German, I like the food also, traditional German and lots of it. German pillows on the bed are a bit of a issue, but this in again traditional so you get on with it. I will be booking again!

We based ourselves here to visit local Christmas markets and because my husband is a steam train lover, this was a good choice, directly opposite the steam trains, and with its own model train delivering drinks and desserts in the dining room! Clean and comfortable rooms, warm, and cheerful staff. The railway station is only a five minute walk away,... More

I am embarrassed to say that we found this hotel by accident as a result of having no German and not understanding the menus of restaurants in the town centre! What a find though! A lovely restaurant overlooking the steam trains. Drinks delivered by model railway. And food that would do the best hotel proud! A good choice on the... More

Recently I spent 2 nights in Hotel Altora. I found the stay most comfortable. The receptionist was most helpful, despite my poor German and the staffs relatively basic English, we always managed to get by and decipher each others sentences, we were never met with any difficulty due to our embarrassingly poor language skills. The room we stayed in was... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and took advantage of the "Railway Room". Although the room was on the smallish side, it served its purpose with an excellent vantage point for seeing the Harz trains. The food in the restaurant was excellent and was very well priced, for instance Monday evening.. 2 main, 4 beers, 2 schnaaps 1 coffee 40... More

We stayed three nights in a comfort room on a half board basis. The hotel offers good value for money. Our room was large and very clean. The room was also surprisingly quiet as we were at the back of the hotel. Breakfast was varied with something to suit all tastes. Dinner was a three course affair with a choice... More

We has a front room, because of the railway view, perhaps a little noisy (NOT the trains, but the main road is busy from very early to very late) Room was simple, but comfortable, with a good bathroom, and excellent heating, which we could control to our liking. The dining room is pleasant, my wife did not believe that you... More

Have a railway room at the front and watch the engines! You are right there!! You can see them being filled up with coal and water and having the boiler raked out. Maybe some smoke blows in your face or the engines shoot steam in the night - but this is what you should be at the hotel for! There... More

Small hotel were you get what you need. You sleep well. The service is given to you by humans wanting to please you, if you have to ask tvice, do so - they are human beeings, not perfect robots. Food is wery good. Order table at the window early to get one of the tabels where you can get your... More
