The moment you see the castle in Oberwesel you know this is something special. You can drive your rental car across a slightly scary but beautiful wooden bridge (or park and walk a bit further) and if you arrive early enough you can have someone in a 4-wheeler with a cart bring your bags so you don't drag them uphill... We got a room with a small balcony facing the river. Wonderful view! The room was outstanding, the staff very helpful and the restaurant was pretty good. Beautiful in every meaning of the word. A perfect experience although we only stayed one night.

We had a nearly perfect experience at the Castle Hotel Auf Schoenburg! The castle is absolutely what you should expect. A bit of a challenge to get up to reception, but that adds to the experience. The public rooms are warm and inviting and all of the staff that we encountered were just wonderful and welcoming. Our room was amazing;... More

This was the Ultimate Experience, staying at this old castle overlooking the Rhine River. Staying here made you feel like you were back in time. The dining experience was like nothing I had experienced before. And the hallways had an old shining armored suit in a corner, that made you think you were in a movie, like Excalibur. The breakfast... More

It was an incredible place to stay. The castle is in great shape and you really get to feel what it would have been like to live in a castle. We had wonderful quick responses to our emails and all our questions were promptly answered. We loved our room and every detail was special and we felt royal. We only... More

My family and I spent 2 weeks traveling in the United Kingdom, Austria, Switzerland and Germany in September 2014. Upon our return home it was unanimous that Schönburg Castle was our favorite overnight stay and also one of the most memorable places we visited. My reservations were made through several e-mail conversations. I was very pleased with the Hüttl families'... More

This is the first castle I have ever stayed in and I loved it. It wasn't too done up so it still had the look and feel of an old medieval castle. And there are plenty of plces to explore. We ventured up onto the wall at night and had a beautiful view of the valley, even nicer during the... More

We had a wonderful stay in Oberwesel at Castle Schoenburg. It's exactly like you would dream of, only better! The grounds are beautiful and the staff warm and welcoming. Our room was 3 flights up and no elevator. It's a castle after all - kind of steep but we made it! Lovely room with a small balcony overlooking the Rhine... More

Imagine every wonderful adjective that could describe a hotel stay. That is what we experienced at Schoenburg. If you must pick only one castle to stay in whilst in Germany, this must be your pick. We arrived, and walked through the grounds into the hotel courtyard. This beautiful, 1100+ year old castle has been restored and lovingly cared for by... More

I reckon everyone wants to experience staying in a castle once in their life. Well, I've done it now and I can strongly recommend this delightfully romantic hotel as the place to do it. Perched high over the river Rhine, and overlooking row upon row of local vineyards, this really is the stuff of fairytales. The whole place is a... More
