Our only glitch was booking the room. We could not book on the hotel website and ended up using booking.com. From the time we arrived the experience was great. We had a lovely lakeview room. The Alte turner restaurant was open and it is fantastic. The wait staff are attentive and entertaining. While many hotels seem to have suffered during Covid, this place has thrived. I was last here 4 years ago and it has gotten better. I had a PHEV and they have a charging station which is very convenient. This is definitely a destination for a great weekend.

Where to start? The minute we arrived on the grounds, we fell in love. The castle was beautiful and romantic. We were greeted with a friendly front desk agent who was very helpful. They seemed to have preserved the authenticity of the castle yet with modern rooms. The room we had overlooked the valley. It was extremely clean and spacious enough to have a travel crib. The bathroom was also great, loved the heated floors. We had flown in from Canada so our sleep that night was wonderful, hearing nothing but the trees at night. Very peaceful! The location is also great, walking distance to restaurants and shops. Definitely recommend this beautiful property!

Good location with good view from breakfast on the 5th floor but that’s it… - no internet in the room - not all rooms have good views . Our room was with the view of a small yard - bad customer service - disappointing food in the restaurant on the 5th floor

The hotel was clean and well kept, but... The service was not great (we wanted to reserve a massage at the spa, they ping ponged us between spa reception and main reception, and finally unfortunately there was no free spot for the day of our stay, same for the restaurant menu for which we were directed to the restaurant and online, both of which were not available so that we had to go back to the reception). Breakfast cost 14.50 euros extra per person, but this was not mentioned. So we ended up paying about 190 euros for 2 nights, but the quality was not up to this Breakfast was relaxing, with a good choice and a wonderful view The room was spacious as the bathroom, but the room was dark (only one small window), the mattress was not the best nor the blanket (synthetic not breathing material) We did not try the spa

The room that we had was lovely and the views over the Edersee were amazing. However this is where the "amazing" stopped. We had a package for 2 nights with food. The first night we ate in the Cafe restaurant Altane. It was OK as was the food, there really was nothing special about this Cafe given the fact that they hold themselves out to be a 4 star hotel. The staff in the Cafe did try but there was certainly something lacking. The breakfast was in the Cafe and I was surprised to find a buffet given most hotels seem to have stopped a buffet due to COVID. Further I was not convinced about the hygiene as an example the smoked salmon was in a dish under a light; the light appeared to be partially "cooking" the salmon. The evening meal on the second night was in the Hotel Restaurant which looks really quite good. However once again there was something lacking. The waiters (whilst they were polite and tried) just did not seem to get it and none of them quite looked the part in their ill fitting black trousers and white shirts. The food was good but the experience overall just lacked something. It is a shame because they have quite a spectular hotel but the restaurants just did not live up to this. Further the drinks (in the restaurant) are very overpriced. As for the Spa this was basically a damp sauna and a normal sauna there was a lot of space that just seemed to be wasted in the Spa and you would certainly not want to visit this Hotel for the Spa. However on the plus side the sleep quality in the Hotel was excellent there was literally no noise at all. I do not know if that had to do with the room that we had if so go for a room on the 4th floor overlooking the Edersee.

The hotel has been beautifully decorated with lots of solid oak throughout. Views over the mountains and forests from both sides of the hotel are stunning. Rooms were large and comfortable - robes and slippers provided too. Breakfast was varied, plentiful and of a high standard. We visited the museum on site - but as it was mostly about the castle's history as a prison, unless you like information about torture techniques, I'd give it a miss and use your time to explore the beautiful area.

The restaurant failed to feed us. We ordered starter and main with an option for desert. We waited 35 minutes to be told our starter was unavailable, 15 mins later it arrived, We waited a further 45 minutes for our main and were told, " you will be next", how long was not specified. by then we gave up, time was 21.00 hrs, so we went to bed hungry. At check out we were told, "I understand you had some problems with check in"! We had no problems with check in, the restaurant was the problem.

As part of a cycling tour of the area, we spent a night here. It was a complete oasis, even if the ride up the hill was tough, this isn’t a problem if you have a car or take the cable car! The hotel is set in a wonderfully authentic castle which has been well maintained and not over-decorated so that it’s original charm remains impressive. The rooms are of generous sizing with well-equipped bathrooms. We had lunch and breakfast in the same room-both of a high standard and with splendid views onto Lake Eder. It was like a postcard! We stayed in the hotel to eat in the evening. Our teenage children initially complained about there being nothing on the menu they would want to eat. They had to eat those very words once their meals came. While the prices are high, the food was absolutely delicious and creative. We all tried and very much enjoyed the new flavors in a perfect setting. I would definitely recommend the hotel and restaurants to others and am keen to return!

We had high expectations for this 4 star hotel but was disappointed with the lack of facilities, a nights stay is not cheap at nearly £150 for the night so we did expect complementary tea, coffee or water, but we only had a drinks fridge and it all came at a cost, also, although the hotel had restaurant facilities there was no room service available. We used one of the restaurants that evening, as expected prices were high, but sadly my £30 chicken dish was a disappointment as the chicken was dry, with hind site we should have ate out. For us a disappointing stay, however, the location and the stunning views went some way to make a poor stay average.

Our family of four spent a few days along the southern bit of the Grimm Brothers Fairytale Route last week, we enjoyed the GRIMMworld Museum in Kassel, and the abundance of half-timbered houses dating back 600 years or so throughout the region. When planning this winter trip, I booked us two different castles to sleep in, the first being Castle Waldeck on Lake Edersee with Mom and Dad's taste in mind, and the next night Hotel Trendelburg aka Rapunzel's Castle ostensibly for the kids. Turns out our 11-yr old daughters prefer tasteful luxury to campy kitsch and all of us loved everything about Hotel Schloss Waldeck: from the comfortable beds and bedding to the incredible attention to detail displayed in the wooden interiors, like the illuminated single flower featured in a wall niche, and the coordinating armoires. Our dinner and breakfast buffet were amazingly delicious and surprisingly, not over-priced. The service in the restaurant and at the front desk is uniformly friendly and accommodating. The grounds are a delight to wander, and our view was gorgeous. Highly recommend this hotel!
