We stayed in the Squires room and was horrified to see the very steep narrowing winding staircase to the room. I had to leave my heavy suitcase in the car! No offer of help to carry it and as I have bad hips, I had no choice Couldn't ask my elderly Mother to carry it! Room was clean and bathroom... More

I stayed here in August for business, the farm estate was excellent bolthole. My room overlooked the lake, where I watched the sun set in the evenings. The room was well apportioned with a King sized bed that was very comfortable and I slept like a log. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided in the room that was excellent... More

A quiet setting in sleepy Suffolk. The room was beautifully furnished. Stayed in The Maids Room. This room is a challenge to get to as it us accessed via a very step staircase so no good for elderly or infirm residents. It also has no shower but a very lovely bathroom with nice products. Good breakfast with selection of local... More

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. We do have 3 ground floor ensuite rooms for those who prefer not to use the stairs, an original feature of our farmhouse. I can always supply photos by email if you are unsure of anything at all - Liz More

Very disappointed with our stay, old fashioned room which looked nothing like the pictures. No bathroom door only a curtain to go across which was weird. Also the guy was very miserable. Breakfast was ok although I think the mushrooms were tinned and no baked beans with full English. Wouldn't go back. Definitely don't recommend to young couples.

It is always a challenge not to detract from 500 years of character, the beautiful beams and sloping ceilings of a true Elizabethan Suffolk Farmhouse. I'm glad breakfast was ok, we do always cook with fresh local ingredients and have B.beans available for those who want them. More

We stayed in the self-catering Carpenters Cottage for 3 days for a family wedding. There were my husband and me, my son and daughter-in-law and 3 grandchildren. All 3 bedrooms were well furnished with en-suite bathrooms, hospitality trays and toiletries. The cottage was very comfortable with ample sofas and chairs in the lounge and a well-equipped kitchen. The setting is... More

We stayed for two nights in the Squires room at £240.00 for the stay including breakfast. Access to the room was by a very narrow, steep staircase. There was virtually no privacy as the door was so warped the gap was about an inch. The four poster dominated the room; the duvet was lumpy, the pillows too soft. There was... More

I was certainly glad of my sat nav to find Colston Hall but it was not difficult to get to. We arrived at about 17:00 and were shown to our room, called the hayloft. The whole place was beautiful and clean and the decor was lovely. The bed was so comfortable that I had one of the best nights sleep... More

We stayed in the Little Maid's Room at Colston Hall. Comfortable bed, tasteful furnishings, separate en suite with bath, view of the fields and lake beyond. Sloping floors and ceilings (very low), twisting staircases, original old latch doors, this place was delightful and distinctive. Very clean. Breakfast was wonderful with a range of fruit, cereals, homemade bread, and superb full... More

Booked this lovely B&B at the very last minute for a getaway to Suffolk. The hosts Liz and John were both friendly and helpful and made our stay relaxed and enjoyable. On arrival we where not sure we had got to the write place, no sign of the entrance at all. The outside and out buildings are very tired, once we had been welcomed and shown to our £150 room things didn't get better! There is a difference between rustic/cosy and unclean /old fashioned. Half empty shampoo bottles, and toilet roll,... More
