Booked to stay one night to attend a wedding nearby. Arrived very late and stressed to a lovely warm welcome from James, he walked out to meet us after getting repeatedly lost around the one way system. James has a lovely manner and soon made us feel relaxed. The hotel is a beautiful building with lots of quirky features, not... More

We stayed in La Port Rouge for one night in early April 2015. The property is very conveniently located that one could walk to restaurants, bars, shops, main street etc in Saintes, yet it is tucked away in a beautiful and quiet street. The hostess is very friendly (love their dog!) and the interior is quirky (I understand she is... More

This was a great find. It's a B&B with 4 rooms on the 3rd level of a charming, well position stately home. The owners spoke perfect English, (husband from USA) and looked after us with great care considering we had 3 very young children. The room was huge and featured a fabulous bathroom with claw foot bath. Breakfast was lovely... More

We stopped over here on the way to Bordeaux. My wife has a loathing of impersonal hotel chains and we were delighted with what we found here.A wonderful house with hosts who could not have been more forthcoming. We had a fantastic 'Table d'Hote' supper that frankly speaking could be smelt out in the street when we arrived and was just the... We loved our stay at La Porte Rouge - a house full of warmth and personally. I was completely charmed by our room, its furnishings and its beautiful roof-top views of Saintes. Both the room and en-suite was spotlessly clean and it is worth mentioning the lovely bed linen. La Porte Rouge is also very pet-friendly - important as we... More

After being guided by the owners, this great B&B in the very centre of Saintes offers all the charm and quietness you are longing for on your trip. Great service, good service for parking help, very quiet room "back in time" and great historical building of the 16th century beautifully restored with great taste. Fantastic breakfast in the quiet and... More

The friendly couple who run this hotel have created a beautiful peaceful place to stay. You are very centrally located and an easy walk to shopping and attractions. You don't have to worry about communication problems, either as the husband is from New York originally.

Beautiful old building in the centre of Saintes. The proprietors were very welcoming - even came to collect me from the station. The rooms were very individual, rather warm when I stayed, but I was provided with a fan. The only problem was the lack of curtains. Breakfast in the garden was charming and I hgihlky recommend the home made... More

Incredible. Beautiful, close to shops and restaurants on a quiet street. French country interiors, updated bathroom. Amazing garden. Unbelievable value. Very friendly host also fluent in English. Compared to hotels available in Sainted, this is the far, far superior option.

Wonderful hotel in an amazing city. A real surprise package in the heart of the city, walking distance to all the attractions - Roman amphitheatre, Triumphal Arch, Churches, Abbeys, shopping and restaurants. Lovely ambiance. The Hotel - is more of a B+B run by Monique and Jim who couldn't do enough for us after our car had broken down. Full... More
