Don't be put off by the shabby exterior, this small hotel is good value and we have used it for a stopover in Calais when returning to the UK for the past two years. On arriving at the the hotel at 15h00, which was our check-in time, we had to wait for 30min for reception to open. The Hotel Richelieu is a convenient stopover hotel in the centre of Calais near restaurants and shops. This hotel is having a major refurbishment. It does not, however affect the day to day management, and travelling with another couple, the receptionist / owner ? was very polite and helpful, and spoke more English than we spoke French.
