We selected the hotel after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and were not unduly disappointed. Staying at this hotel is all about managing expectations. The renovation notices are still there, the carpet is threadbare, the common area depressing and the outside far from welcoming. However, all that said, the room was spotlessly clean and the location canot be faulted,... more

We stayed in this hotel on our way from South of France back to Ireland. Excellent value for money hotel (only cost us EUR 55 for 2 persons B&B booking directly). Very clean, quete location, few minutes walk from the main street with a number of restaurants. Friendly owner. Reception is not always attended so make sure you let the... more

The Richelieu is located in the very centre of Calais, near shops and restaurants and some of the rooms benefit from spacious balconies with a park view. The staff are very friendly and professional, the room we stayed in was clean, spacious and furnished with beautiful old pieces of furniture. It was also possibly the biggest room we stayed in... more

Don't be put off by the shabby exterior, this small hotel is good value and we have used it for a stopover in Calais when returning to the UK for the past two years. The (renovated) rooms are spacious and comfortable. Good location, excellent continental breakfast for 7 euros (croissants and baguette were brought in warm from the local boulangerie).... more

We wanted a 3 night cheap and cheerful break over Easter which involved a trip on a ferry, outside the UK, eat nice food and see the sun, without the car. Our stay at the Richelieu satisfied the cheap (relatively!) and cheerful aspect perfectly. We had two adjoining rooms for 4 of us at approx 100 Euros per night for... more

On arriving at the the hotel at 15h00, which was our check-in time, we had to wait for 30min for reception to open. We had specified that we wanted a bath in our booking, which was confirmed that we would get that, but we got a room with a shower. The hotel is under renovation and should not be open... more

Our room has feather duvet! Heater is always hot, I didn't even expecting heater yet at late Sep, but, it is nice to have it! The bath is huge. And It is so convinient. less than a mile to the car ferry port, 3-5 minutes walk to city shopping center. Although, you can see furnitures, stairs, walls are quite old,... more

The Hotel Richelieu is a convenient stopover hotel in the centre of Calais near restaurants and shops. Currently undergoing a refurbishment, some of the public areas are a bit tired, but our room was OK, clean and tidy - much better than some of the basic French hotels! Breakfast (extra) was good - wait for him to bring out the... more

This hotel is having a major refurbishment. It does not, however affect the day to day management, and travelling with another couple, the receptionist / owner ? was very polite and helpful, and spoke more English than we spoke French. The hotel is very clean, and I suppose is a typical small hotel, offering comfort and a very good breakfast.... more
