The courtyard restaurant is attractive and you must go through this to arrive at the tiny check-in desk. We came for the annual jazz festival and this very centrally located little hotel was just right. Houlgate is small in itself but it isn't full of hotels right in town and so this is a good location. Only downside no parking... More

The cleaning lady stole 90 Euros from my 14 year old! Do not go - not worth getting robbed. My 14 year old had kept a bag of her Euros in a pocket in her suitcase as she did not want to take to beach AND we were leaving to spend time in Paris after a few days in Houlgate.... More

Small hotel with small rooms but clean and well cared for. The hotel is family run and the family are very helpful and friendly. It is located just off the main road and one block from the seafront - miles of golden sand. The hotel is very french, and has a superb restaurant which has an extensive menu that is... More

Returned to visit Houlgate after 20 years, it hasn't changed much and that's a big plus ,retains that "je ne sais crois". We were lucky to have booked such a good hotel as this. OK no big reception check in or lounge, but the welcome could not have been warmer, can only agree with others room good size, beds and bathroom... More

We are a family of 4 with young children. The staff is very welcoming. Our room and bathroom is good size and importantly, clean. The beds are comfy with ample of good fluffy pillows. Our bathroom also decent size and clean though no shower door/curtain. Very good shower & bath tub size. Excellent service. Breakfast is a buffet service and... More

Houlgate, though close to Caen, is east of it and is therefore saved from overnighting Brits migrating south. It has charm and some residential architectural gems from 3rd Empire/Fin de Siecle. And this small quirky but delightful hotel/restuarant is it's star. Great welcome, facinating decor and excellent food. Will keep going back.

They misbooked our reservation and we landed 4 (2 kids and us) in a room for two. Hence could have been a nightmare especialy with the typicall normand weather.. Yet was fine due to excellent service and delicious breakfast (very much above French standards). We specialy recommend a dinner as it realy is gastronomic and a good price/quality ratio. rooms... Not much to pick from in Houlgate, but this place is a hidden gem. Room was small, but clean and well kept.

We stayed in the only room downstairs facing the patio. It was great for us. No stairs: hub is 82. With a dog it was great for access. Quiet after 11pm and before 9am. Nice, smallish bathroom. big, firm beds, TV, a table, an ancient wardrobe. Very specially nice. The breakfast had all the usual stuff plus Normand specialities: tergoule,... More

We have booked 5 nights at the Hostellerie Normande in May 2010, by chance as we were looking for the place to stay in this area of Normandy. Pluses: Hotel location - great in the heart of Houlgate, which is in our mind the most convinient and least porsh area in Normandy cost. Hotel is easy reached by car and... More
