En- route to Cologne in Germany to join a river cruise, we spent one night in this Grand Hotel. Outwardly a comfortable looking building opposite the town's main railway station, the interior revealed a modern look which still remained sympathetic to the original. Our room was spacious with double bed and en-suite with bath. Being with a coach party, we... More

had one night experience of an average implementation of old style grand hotel. room was small and a bit stuffy with a small window overlooking the square. bathroom had a hot tub that went bonkers and made noise through the night. wifi was free and fast. restaurant was very good, really no need to wander outside for food. parking was... Myself and 3 other colleagues stayed at Le Grand Hotel de Valenciennes during May this year and we were very impressed with everything from rooms, restaurant and staff. The food in the restaurant was extremely good and services was second to none. Whenever I stay in Valenciennes in the future (usually on business) Le Grand Hotel will always be my... More

Had an overnight stay here & was disturbed to find no disabled access, however the staff were excellent lifting wheelchairs including their occupants up the steps. We found the easiest access was by the bar door as this had a bannister that reached the pavement, something others had not noticed. The lift was very small but manageable by those able... More

I have been going to the Grand for years. Originally the hotel was a truly faded old dear. Sad bedrooms and sadder staff. In the last couple of years the hotel has had a facelift and has adopted a very 1960s style. Bedrooms are not big, but have what is needed. A shower curtain in the bathroom would have been... More

The Grand Hotel is, I fear, redolent of Valenciennes itself: a place whose hour of glory is long past. Clearly it was designed for grandness, directly opposite the train station through which most visitors would have arrived a century ago. But now it suffers from tiredness. A small lobby leads via an even smaller lift to the rooms, many of... More

We stayed here for one night en route to England from Germany with Shearings. We stayed on a Saturday night and had been told that it was not the best area but we never heard or saw anything untoward. We had a lovely twin room which over-looked an inner courtyard so nice and quiet. Evening meal was included for us... More

I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. It is located at the train station in Valenciennes, which is very handy, but you have to realize that it isn't the most upper class neighborhood of Valenciennes. There was some noise outside during the night, so the night rest was not that splendid. Breakfast was rather expensive, but the food was... More

In 2013, it is simply amazing that an hotel can charge you almost 100€ for a hotel in such a condition. Rooms seem not to have been renovated for ages. Walls are dirty, beds are from a different era and the bathroom is old, falling into pieces, with a bathtub curtain too long and black from moisture. We ate at... More

The name doesn't reflect the actual condition of the Hotel. Rooms are average, with toilet separated from the rest of the bath. The room was OK, maybe a bit dark... Personnel was kind and, at least, spoke English.
