The Grand Hotel is, I fear, redolent of Valenciennes itself: a place whose hour of glory is long past. Clearly it was designed for grandness, directly opposite the train station through which most visitors would have arrived a century ago. But now it suffers from tiredness. A small lobby leads via an even smaller lift to the rooms, many of... More

We stayed here for one night en route to England from Germany with Shearings. We stayed on a Saturday night and had been told that it was not the best area but we never heard or saw anything untoward. We had a lovely twin room which over-looked an inner courtyard so nice and quiet. Evening meal was included for us... More

I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. It is located at the train station in Valenciennes, which is very handy, but you have to realize that it isn't the most upper class neighborhood of Valenciennes. There was some noise outside during the night, so the night rest was not that splendid. Breakfast was rather expensive, but the food was... More

In 2013, it is simply amazing that an hotel can charge you almost 100€ for a hotel in such a condition. Rooms seem not to have been renovated for ages. Walls are dirty, beds are from a different era and the bathroom is old, falling into pieces, with a bathtub curtain too long and black from moisture. We ate at... More

The name doesn't reflect the actual condition of the Hotel. Rooms are average, with toilet separated from the rest of the bath. The room was OK, maybe a bit dark... Personnel was kind and, at least, spoke English.

The stay was quite a deception. There was no noise insultation between the rooms, the room desparately needs refurbishment, the water tap was almost impossible to turn, the bed was not very comfy. The only modern piece was the flat screen tv, with hardly any international channel. Location is good, opposite the station.

Dirty, dingy rooms. Smells of smoke. Strange people hanging around hotel staring. No shower curtain on the shower but could see where a rod had once been. No ac. Very few staff spoke English (it's a hotel). No safe. Front desk made us leave our "key" with them when we went out and all you had to do was say... More

Normally we dont stop in town centres as we usually have expensive bikes on the car. no problem hotel has good secure parking. It's an old building but is being refurbished. We had a great double on 3rd floor with plenty of room. staff were very helpful but what made the stay was the restaurant. By mid evening the place... More

The Grand has been a beautiful hotel in her day. She is being given a facelift . The staff are efficient and friendly. The beds comfortable and the rooms are clean. The room we stayed in was large suite over looking the station. Another lovely building. Although the room was due for a face lift the bathroom left nothing to... More

Friendly staff at reception. The hotel is very old and this shows in the rooms that are very small with a strange odour. The double bed had seen better times and did not afford a comfortable nights sleep The free WI Fi did not work but as we were only there for one night this caused no inconvience. We traveled... More
