Despite our arrival at an unreasonably late hour, we were welcomed warmly. The rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast is good --- with freshly squeezed orange juice! But what stands out is the warmth of the owners.

Stayed here for 3 nights, and loved it. It is owned and run by a family, who all work hard to ensure that no detail is overlooked.Thomas on reception welcomed us and subsequently seemed to do everything else - serving breakfast, giving advice on walks, tidying rooms etc! Our room was very large and lovely, with two balconies overlooking the... More

Weather cut short our trip in the region but our stay at du Lion d'Or was pretty much the highlight of our time there. Generous breakfast buffet, quaint rooms and friendly host. Best thing is - this place has reliable wifi all over the hotel. Wholeheartedly recommended.

There are some hotels that make you feel very comfortable the moment you walk in the front door and this is one of them. Family run for several generations, the Lion d'Or is tastefully adorned with antique ski equipment and has an authentic alpine atmosphere. But that's not its best attribute. It's the genuine warmth and friendly service offered by... More

The Lion d'Or offered such a warm and friendly atmosphere that we immediately felt at home. It's also a three star hotel whose rooms have four star facilities. We were extremely comfortable, enjoying all the attention to detail not often found in French hotels - tissues in the bathroom, tea making facilities. We certainly appreciated a very well cooked 4-course... More

This was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The hotel has been owned by the same family since 1915 and has been in business is 1850. Every detail is attended to. The customer service is exceptional and the room was extremely comfortable. i It is right across the street from the Bains de Rocher which itself... More

This home from home is in the heart of Cauterets, a village, (ski resort in winter), nestled between mountains and surrounded by rivers, lakes and waterfalls in the Haute Pyrenees. The town is quaint and picturesque. There are shops, mostly aimed at sporting activities and many restaurants or cafés and a good supermarket. There are cable cars and ski lifts... More

We stayed two night at the Lion d''Or The staff were absolutely delightful and so welcoming. We were shown to our comfortable spacious room, which had lovely views. The breakfast was fantastic, fresh, tasty with freshly squeezed orange juice and boiled eggs. Highly recommended.

Delightful and friendly family-run hotel in this charming small town - good beds, thermal baths across the road, surrounded by mountains, wonderful breakfasts. Out of skiing-season Cauterets is pleasant and quiet but with some interesting small bars, cafes and restuarants within walking distance. The Lion d'Or is centrally situated, has a comfortable lounge/bar (my only regret was not to see... More

We booked online 6 months before our visit and the inn and owners were so helpful and even recommended our next inn after we left town. So helpful at check in showing us all the rooms and doors to best access for our goup. The breakfasts and dinners were also fresh and tasty. Wish we had down all our dinners... More
