This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. It is in a great location and full of character. The decor is a little tired, but it doesn't matter as everything is clean and it works and the staff are friendly and helpful, especially Sylvie. There is limited parking outside the hotel, but there is secure parking in the... More

A charming hotel overlooking the river in the centre of town. Faded grandeur but clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. Much nicer to stay in than the newer characterless plastic hotels on the edge of town. Sylvie was friendly and welcoming and also emailed before we arrived. We parked outside the front door overnight, though it is possible to reserve a... More

Friendly chatty staff. Was given hotel information via email. Great location. No lift. Room had faded old world charm and lovely views over the river. The hotel is in a former townhouse with a marble staircase. It looked as if it had been quite grand. Now in need of updating. I did like the fact that it was unique. Parking... More

The hotel is located right on the river, in center of the city. It is reasonably priced and nothing to complain about but as I came into the hotel, the owner quoted me 50 € including breakfast. When I settled the bill with the lady on evening duty, she knew of nothing and I had to pay more than 60... More

My love of this place started through the lovely friendly caring and informative emails I received before.arrived. I was late arriving and someone stayed more than an hour extra to let me in and even organised a taxi to pick me up at the station. The hotel may be old but it has so much character and all were so... More

Terrific and nexpensive place to stay for a night or two in Chalon, especially if your connecting to a river cruise. Location can't be beat. Hotel is no more than 100 yards from where the cruise vessels tie up. Also just a couple of blocks from Rue de Layon, major and colorful market street on Sundays selling everything from wine... This hotel is right near the centre, but not noisy. You can park just outside for free along the river. The lady in charge, Sylvie, is delightful, speaks some English and is very helpful in suggesting things to see and do and where to eat. The rooms are quaintly decorated, I think I spotted a Laura Ashley wallpaper circa 1980,... More

Spent a day in transit in Chalon wanting to avoid autoroute hotels and had a very enjoyable brief stay. We booked the St Jean in advance but were delayed in our arrival. Despite arriving at after 11pm, Sylvie waited up for us and was really welcoming and helpful. The hotel isn't modern, but is situated in a traditional building with... More

What an amazing place, I felt a little like I'd stepped back in time and I loved it. Sylvie and Stanislas were very friendly hosts, I was made very welcome Be aware there is no lift and I was on the top floor but the stairs are beautiful with doors in the panelling and little corridors all over. My room... More

This hotel is sort of old-world French mansion style. It is well worn in places but has many charming characteristics. The Owner, Sylvie gave us good advice on places to eat. We ended up having a delicious meal at Chez Jules. Chalon-Sur-Saone has a pretty town centre. The hotel is very typically French.
