Reading other reviews we wondered what the evening would be like. We did not book but turned up and given a table with no fuss. Such a delightful meal. Starters salmon with quinoa and gazpacho de tomates (absolutely delicious), mains lapin and fish followed by dessert. This does not take into account the amuse bouches, etc. OK there were some... Stayed overnight enroute from North to South --- The "Melanie" bedroom was charming and very comfortable and the bathroom was fabulous. Dinner was delicious, but on a Saturday night charged a la carte --- a common French trick which greatly increased the cost of our stay. Service was patchy --- probably not enough staff for the diners. At 12€ per... More

This hotel is located in the heart of the medieval city and the room we stayed in was really beautiful, comfortable, and good value for money. The hotel staff however told us we had booked the dinner, although I had no memories of doing so. This is a nice but expensive restaurant, and it represented an unexpected extra cost to... More

The place looks quaint from the outside, but inside it is very charming and well done up. A lot of details we're put into each room, making them all very individual. Service and staff was top notch, and the room was very quit. The bed can be adjusted electronically with a remote, something rarely found in hotels. Restaurant was very... More

A one night stay with dinner bed and breakfast. Very efficient staff who rushed out to give parking instructions which we couldn't understand. Parking is very tight in a small courtyard accessed through a narrow arch - which is itself approached from very narrow streets. A fabulous bathroom and a comfortable room with vaulted beamed ceiling. Dinner was of a... More

There is no doubt that this hotel is in an outstanding building, has real charm and is well run. But what spoils it are the ludicrously high prices (£25 for a SALAD!!!) and the money grabbing attitude that is shown in virtually all contact with the hotel staff. For example, shock horror was shown, and my wife and I were... More

We were passing through Montluçon and wandered down to the old town to find a restaurant. Le Grenier de Sel is a hotel tucked away in a side street. The restaurant, which is made up of several rooms, was well patronised, so we had a wait for a few minutes for another room to be opened up. The hotel is... More

A lovely little hotel in the centre of Montlucon. The 2 rooms that we had were both spacious and quiet with a nicely sized bathroom as well as all the needed toiletries. The restaurant on the premises is very nice also and the food served here is excellent. It was a pity that on the day of our stay it... More

I found this hotel after some searching on the internet for a place to stay over on our way to La Rochelle. The Location of the hotel is charming, it is located in the older part of Montlucon next to the church. The staff are very charming and friendly, and nothing is ever too much bother. The rooms are clean... More

We stayed for just one night in May 2012. Montlucon, like most French towns has a substantial collection of old buildings and narrow streets full of character - and Le Grenier a Sel is at the heart of the old part of town. Tucked away, tricky to find, partly because of the many one way streets, but a haven of... More
