We have been repeat visitors to this place. After reading the one negative review here, I felt an urge to comment. On one trip to Sarlat, we arrived much later than expected. Instead of waking the Toulemon family at the late hour, we stopped instead at a Best Western Hotel. That cost almost 3 times what we paid at Toulemon's... more

I loved this place, both the room and the town. The room is in a guest house owned by Pierre. It's so much more charming than a typical hotel. Pierre is very nice, speaks English, and is more than happy to tell you about the area and give advice on what to see. He also provides several books on the... more

inkacola is exactly correct. We obviously stayed in the same room. Superb location approx. 30metres from the town square. M. Toulemon is a real gentleman, has an excellent knowledge of the Perigord region, has written itineraries for guests to use and provides the best croissants we tasted in all of France. The room was large, light and airy, modern bathroom,... more

Having never stayed in a Chambre d'Hotes, we were a bit nervous --but what a pleasant surprise! La Maison du Notaire Royal is a wonderfully atmospheric old mansion in the center of Sarlat. We had an enormous room, with a comfortable bed, good reading lights, a table and chairs, and a balcony overlooking the main square (Saturday market) --no tv... more

After the last review had my doubts but totally unfounded, am wondering if it was same place but the comment about aircon confirmed the nationality. If you want an amorphous, bland, airconditioned hotel room just like the one you get back home (and don't have to worry about those pesky non-English speaking foreigners) don't come here. But if you want... more

This is not a place I would ever stay again. Terribly overrated, hard to find and so old that the room door handle literally fell off when the owner tried to close it for us. The room was on the ground floor...with no AC...we were told not to leave the windows open because the cats might come in during the... more

I was planning a trip around France with my then-boyfriend (now fiance) and read about the Gite Toulemon in Rick Steves's book. It sounded wonderful from the description, but he almost didn't do it justice! After paying 60 Euro per night for our tiny little garrett in Paris (which was romantic in a bohemian way), what a breath of fresh... more

My daughter and I visited this wonderful region in May 2004. Our visit was enhanced by our delightful accommodation at the home of Diane & Pierre Henri's Toulemon Chambres d Hote. Our large room had french doors opening on to a small balcony which overlooked the town square. A very pleasant spot to enjoy our continental breakfast each morning. It... more
