Directly in front of the ferry dock, overlooking the Hardanger fjord, stands the historic Utne hotel. It is a white wooden 2-storey structure stands in all its glory, The hotel looks like a real doll-house. A cute little lobby, antique furniture from all sides, a bowl of fresh plum dripping juice welcomes you to A place where time has stood... More

Very helpful staff. The manager and spouse are masters of hospitality. The room we had was a bit Spartan, but it was certainly adequate for our needs. Don't miss the folk museum nearby. Plan to get up with the first ferry. check for time.

Said to be the oldest continuously-inhabited hotel in Norway - a 2-storey wooden structure situated directly on Hardanger Fjord, with great charm of an original style. Very pleasant patio for dining overlooking the fjord for the relatively rare weeks when outdoor dining is possible. Rooms all white - walls, beds. linen etc., and as clean as one comes to expect... If you are looking for a big comfortable hotel, the Utne Hotel is " not your baby". This little charmer makes you work to like it...but with patience, you will fall in love with this little gem. The reception area is tiny but welcoming with the small stone fireplace going. The stairway and hallways are narrow, but very cozy. The... More

We were looking for a place to stay at while visiting the hardangerfjord region on our way to Bergen. After touring in Odda, Eidfjord and other neighboring towns, I can say that the Utne hotel blew all of the others away. The decor is very cozy and charming. The meals were incredible - my favorite breakfast of the whole trip.... More

First the good - nice historic building with amazing views of the fjord (but that goes without saying in Norway). Thats about it. Rooms are very small and old. bathrooms small and dated. across from the ferry so be prepared to be woken up when the ferry starts ~6am. Food is expensive , buts thats the norm in Norway. Breakafast... More

We didn't stay here, but had lunch with a tour group and thought it was wonderful ! The place is so warm and welcoming and it has a fascinating history. The young woman who manages the hotel with her husband is such a gracious hostess ! Definitely would come back if the opportunity presented itself.

Quaint and cozy hotel right on the water. The rooms were surprisingly a nice size considering the age of the hotel. Everything was clean and well kept. A very welcoming place! Loved the flowers on the patio. And, the breakfast offered a wide selection. My only complaint is that due the location near the ferry dock, it tended to be... More

We enjoyed a nice fish stew and excellent apple pie for lunch after spending the morning touring a local museum. We didn't stay at this hotel, but wished we had. Just walking around the building, seeing the family heirlooms, and learning about the history was fascinating.

This is one of the most charming places I have ever stayed. An old wooden building, carefully restored to include modern amenities, especially in the bathrooms, but preserving all the atmosphere of the historic building. Stunning location right at the fjord; from you balcony we had a top view of water and mountains. Excellent food too, and friendly staff. Stay... More
