First the good - nice historic building with amazing views of the fjord (but that goes without saying in Norway). Thats about it. Rooms are very small and old. bathrooms small and dated. across from the ferry so be prepared to be woken up when the ferry starts ~6am. Food is expensive , buts thats the norm in Norway. We didn't stay here, but had lunch with a tour group and thought it was wonderful ! The place is so warm and welcoming and it has a fascinating history. The young woman who manages the hotel with her husband is such a gracious hostess ! Definitely would come back if the opportunity presented itself.

Quaint and cozy hotel right on the water. The rooms were surprisingly a nice size considering the age of the hotel. Everything was clean and well kept. A very welcoming place! Loved the flowers on the patio. And, the breakfast offered a wide selection. My only complaint is that due the location near the ferry dock, it tended to be... More

We enjoyed a nice fish stew and excellent apple pie for lunch after spending the morning touring a local museum. We didn't stay at this hotel, but wished we had. Just walking around the building, seeing the family heirlooms, and learning about the history was fascinating.

This is one of the most charming places I have ever stayed. An old wooden building, carefully restored to include modern amenities, especially in the bathrooms, but preserving all the atmosphere of the historic building. Stunning location right at the fjord; from you balcony we had a top view of water and mountains. Excellent food too, and friendly staff. Stay... More

Folk decoration makes the hotel utterly charming. The food was excellent, the beds comfortable, the bathroom modern. We had room 21 with a balcony and a great view of the fjord and the ferry dock. That was the problem, The ferries arrive at least once an hour from 6:30 AM to 10:45 PM, and dock with a loud bang and... More

I just love this place. It is so Zen, it's like checking into a Carl Larsson pairing. The building oozes history, the staff are charming and delightful. I didn't expect much from the food (you are a captive audience in Utne) but its is fantastic (reindeer, local rainbow trout, home made delicious jams at breakfast) Maybe some would find the... More

This very old hotel offers a fine mix of historic atmosphere with modern amenities, good food, attentive and knowledgeable managers. Our room was charming, the common areas full of exciting historic details and the location is perfect, right on the car ferry slip. Standing on the terrace in front of the hotel you face the beautiful Hardanger fjord.

This is a beautiful hotel and a wonderful introduction to Norway. It is situated in the quiet fjord-side hamlet of Utne and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Exquisitely refurbished and beautifully kept, all the public rooms and even the landings and corridors are a joy to be in. Our bedrooms were delightful - our daughters [aged 18 and 20],overlooking the... More
