My husband and I stayed here for one night and found it excellent. Friendly, helpful staff and great food in picturesque surroundings. Nothing else in the area but a good base for visiting the beautiful Northumbrian countryside. Ideal for Hexham, Corbridge, Allendale and Alston and not too far from Scottish border.

We stayed here for two nights while visiting the area. Our room (9) was compact but clean and well presented with tea and coffee making facilities which included biscuits. The large shower room was equipped with clean white towels and toiletries. The breakfasts were delicious, being cooked to order with plenty of tea, coffee and toast. We ate our evening... More

We had an enjoyable night at the Elks Head. Food in the bar is straightforward pub grub - tasty, well presented and good value for money. Our bedroom in the annex was clean and comfortable - the only disadvantage is that you can hear noise from other rooms.

I stayed here in February half-term with my partner and Dog, who we have never really taken away with us and don't like leaving as he can be a bit mischievous. With this in mind it was a bit of a big step for us but to be honest it went really well. The property is in a fantastic location,... More

The pub offertes a very good breakfast. Not the pre-cooked english breakfast you get in most hotels but fresh-made-to-order-full-english-breakfast. What a way to start the day. The pub in the evening is busy and nice. The hotel over the pub is good and quiet. A perfect place to sleep, start the day and end the day for the area. The... More

Three of us went for lunch today and it was Lovely, there was a young man behind the bar, who was running the Bar, taking Food orders and Serving meals all in his stride. The Food was Good as always (The Elk's Ploughman's Lunch was divine) as was the rest of the food, the sweet potato fries that came with... More

As part of a group party of 6 couples we stayed here for three nights on a half board basis. I concur with an earlier reviewer's opinion that it's really a coaching-inn with rooms, so don't expect 4-poster beds and huge suites. We were located in the "new" annexe which was ideal for requirements although the room decor was showing... More

Had 3 night stay here to view Hadrian's wall and the roman forts nearby and really enjoyed it. The wall is about a 20min drive away to Vindolanda, the hotel is in the middle between hexham and haltwhistle. The room was in the new annexe, no 9, with a bathroom that overlooked the river. Room was quiet, with tea and... More

We, like most other reviewers stayed at the Elks Head through a Groupon deal. Firstly, I have to add that in my opinion I would class the Elks Head as a traditional 'coaching house/pub with rooms. Its not what I would call a 'hotel'. We requested a room with a river view which we got albeit from the shower room!... More
