This is a typically English country inn at the side of one of the UKs most scenic drives. The drive there is itself worth the visit. The staff throughout were very friendly and helpful. The bedrooms are small but clean and well equipped. Whilst our bedroom (9) view was poor, it was made up by the wonderful river view from... More

Great location by the river near Hadrian's Wall. Friendly team who run a cosy pub and hotel. Menu had plenty to choose from and all the meals were a great success - black pudding at breakfast etc! Rooms all good - best are those in the new wing - recommend room 10!

We recently found this offer on Groupon so not that sure what to expect. What a charming place surrounded by breathtaking countryside. On arrival we were greeted by warm and friendly staff who showed us to our room which was very clean and cozy with everything on hand to make you feel at home. After unpacking we decided to go... Just the job after a 3hour drive, friendly staff made us very welcome and showed us to our very comfortable room with en-suite, evening meal was very good and reasonably priced, bonus for me was a couple of real ales on tap, one from Alendale just 4 miles down the road :)) Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very... Visited with other family members recently on way home from holiday. What a find! Good selection of real ales on the bar, both local and national. Pleasant surroundings both inside and out, particularly on a sunny day by the river. Varied menu appealing to all ages with 'daily specials' on the board as well. When the food arrived it was... We had a one night stay here just to get away for a night. The staff were chatty, welcoming and helpful. Our room was small and a bit run down and tired, in need of decorating and furniture repair. The room looked out over the car park, early morning the sun streamed into the room which was nice in a... More

Stayed here one night and couldn't have been happier. Our room though a little small had a great view over the little river at the back of the hotel. Dining room menu was good with some blackboard selections, food was delicious and breakfast more than ample. Lovely little country pub extremely quite during the night.
