While the title may seem a bit harsh to the good people of Sommaroy. The Sommaroy Arctic Hotel in the early dark of February had that kind of feel, a welcome refuge of warmth and light. There is a surreal quality to the three nights we spent there as we watched the place blossom around us. Wonderful staff, brilliant food,stunning... More

We did not have time to stay at Sommaroy on this trip but decided to head out to the hotel for an evening meal before watching the northern lights from the mountains on the way back into Tromsø. The menu was diverse with plenty of choice, the Reindeer was excellent, the best we had on our two week trip around... More

We stayed here for two nights off season and had a really relaxing break. The rooms were great - simple, clean, comfortable and the staff were very approachable. They helped us locate walking trails around the island so we were able to explore. The restaurant is the only one around (except for a little cafe over the bridge which was... More

My wife and I had a 5 day, 4 night visit to northern Norway to attempt to see the Northern Lights and do some whale watching. After my wife did some extensive research, we chose the Sommaroy Arctic Hotel, and we are very glad that we did. We booked direct flights from Gatwick to Tromso with Norwegian Airlines(only available at... More

Stayed one night for some northern light spotting and sightseeing around the Sommarøy/Tromsø area. Very nice and friendly staff. Rooms are spacious and with good beds. Nice design and furniture ! Missed things like a coffee maker, wine glass, minibar etc but im sure the reception would help you with all this if needed. Great food in the restaurant. Breakfast... More

We didn't stay here, but we did eat here one lunchtime. They provided an "all you can eat buffet" for lunch. It was very good and even catered for my gluten intollerent nephew on request. Very beautiful location. £20 adults and £10 children.

We wanted to see the northern lights and this place sounded perfect. It's a simple 45 min drive from Tromso and is absolutely stunning. We stayed in the hotel for the first night then spent two in a sea cabin. If your budget allows, book a cabin - you won't be disappointed. We saw the northern lights 3 nights out... More

Sommaroy is a small village west of Tromso at the end of narrow winding road. There are lots of vacation cabins and interesting harbor inlets. We stayed in one of the cabins on a small inlet. It had 2 bedrooms a private bathroom a fully equipped kitchen and a nice deck over the water. We bought groceries in a small... More
