My husband and I stayed at the Open Gate for 5 nights in October 2008. We found the family running the hotel very professional and extremely helpful. The food was excellent. We were never overcharged we ate there every night and breakfast (not during the day as were were out and about). All our purchases wsere itemised and we were... more
Great room with own bathroom and fantastic view over sea. Good hosts. Lovely little town away from the big touristy centres on coast. Best to get there by bus from Sorrento. Hotel located a short walk away from a bus stop. Don't get off in the town of Praiano itself. Wait for the bus (heading towards Amalfi from Positano) to... more
We stayed for two nights and enjoyed the stay. Especially the view from the large balcony was great. Just a few minutes walk from the hotel there is an excellent restaurant called Le Pirate. You walk for a couple of minutes in direction Amalfi and then take the stairs all the way down to the sea - not far from... more
This is a nice hotel in Praiano, which is a nice quite place to consider in the amalfi coast between positano and amalfi. The hotel hotel was clean, the rooms were well kept, and the views from the balconies is incredible (ask for room 29). The family who run the place are firendly and professional; and the have free parking... more
The hotel was small family run. All rooms had balconies with view of coast. Breakfast included. Being situated between Amalfi and Positano gave us easy access to both. Praiano doesn't have that busy touristy feeling Amalfi and Positano had - so great to come back to after a busy day. Small local bus goes between Praiano and Positano and stop... more
We stayed at the Open Gate about 3 years ago and I absolutely loved it. I recommened it to some friends last year and they were also pleased. So this year when we visited the Amalfi coast we decided to stay there again, but were a bit disapointed with the room. I agree with the person who wrote that the... more
The Open Gate is family run, and if you are a relaxed guest the staff are wonderfully helpful and creative. I disagree with some of the negative comments posted here - you have to understand the family is doing everything, and may have been stressed. Our experience was genial and warm. We surprised the chef one evening by requesting a... more
We stayed at the busiest time of the year and did so as a result of the reviews in Trip Advisor. It is the first time we have stayed in a 2 star and did so for a number of reasons but mainly the price which was tremendous value for money. The rooms are basic, the bathroom/shower adequate, the breakfast... more
We booked here for 3 nights July 2004. The website is not an accurate reflection of the hotel. It describes itself as "Newly built, equipped with every modern comfort". This is not true. There was no air conditioning (in July this is terrble at night) and the bathrooms was not modern. Ours had missing tiles and bad decor. Furniture is... more
