Just returned from a wonderful two weeks in this lovely family run hotel in the Tuscan mountains. Although some might find the family momentoes and photos around the hotel to be 'clutter' it gives the hotel a real feel of homeliness and character. The cleanliness of our room and shower room could not be faulted. The food was fantastic and... More

This is a small family run hotel up in the mountains in Tuscany- a real gem. Gavinana is not in the least bit a tourist town- it is real Italy and a great place to base yourself for walking, sightseeing, or just relaxing ( we did a bit of each but maybe less of the walking than our fellow travellers).... Ignore the previous review !! The hotel food is great. All fresh food and superbly cooked. I have no idea what the previous reviewer is going on about. OK the toaster is a bit ' tired ' but that's about it. The family owners are great fun, and our Saga Rep, Suzanne was just brilliant. ( Don't mention George Clooney... More

I am beginning to wonder if I stayed at the same place as the other reviewers. The albergo is lovely, situated in the central square - but the food is dire!!! Breakfast consists of stale sugary croissants, undrinkable instanf coffee, slices of shiny English-style ham, shiny rashers of not fully cooked bacon, no fruit, fruit yoghurt pots, a toaster that... Family run, central village location central to splendid walking country. Very friendly. This was a family-run hotel that made fine meals. Lots of stairs. Good for visits to Sienna, Pisa, Lucca. If you are lucky (we were not) the local observatory offers public open evenings.

This wonderful typical family run hotel gave us everything we could have wished for! The friendly atmosphere was created by all members of the family who welcomed us into 'their home' & made us all feel very welcome. The dining experience was of a high standard & we felt that we experienced the true Tuscany. The rooms were basic but... More

We stayed at the Franceschi for a week and had a lovely time. The hotel is run by the Franceschi family Piero, Dilva and their daughter Lucrezia all of whom did everything possible to make our stay pleasurable. The rooms were on the small side but nothing unusual for a small Italian albergo. The only unusual feature was that in... More
