We stayed here for a few nights in the winter and enjoyed our visit. I think we were actually the only people in the hotel and it was very quiet in town. The hotel is located right inside the old town gate at the bottom of the (steep) hill and directly across from La Bottega del (Vino) Nobile, a TERRIFIC... More

We very much enjoyed our 5 nights here. The manager and staff are attentive, friendly and certainly speak enough English to cater to their guests. Reserved parking spots are inside the city walls right outside the door to the hotel. They helped haul our large suitcases up two flights of stairs. Breakfast was very good and included eggs made to... More

Very friendly and helpful staff, particularly with helping us to get a parking spot on a really busy day in Montepulciano - much appreciated! The hotel itself is traditionally decorated, and there are a few unexpected things like a billiard table in one of the reception rooms! We had an absolutely lovely view from the balcony across to Lake Trasimeno.... More

We spent two nights in this hotel, the first in room facing the square. Room was ugly and bed was really uncomfortable. Really noisy. Breakfast was substandard compared to our other hotels. Would have moved hotels but fortunately young lady at desk agreed to move us to a room which looked out over the hillside. Looked like a different hotel...... More

This hotel is styled like and old house. The bedroom was pretty basic - kind of what you would expect if you were staying in an 1800s home. Sweet staff, spoke little English but we were able to communicate fine. Great breakfast with good cheese, meat, fresh squeezed OJ, granola, croissants. Parking right out front, gave us pass to drive... More

We stayed in a spacious clean room, with a great view over the rolling hills of Tuscany. The place has a genuine vintage feel, with some marvellous old wooden posters (To the Gin factory! etc) up in the hall ways. The owners are incredibly helpful and lovely, and cook up and serve the most amazing breakfast spread. Given the very... More

We were touring in Tuscany and booked this hotel through tourist information. It is not far inside the medieval city walls and has a few parking spaces outside. It was probably 'state of the art' in the 50s and is kept well decorated if a little quaint. (The basin was cracked.) There are some atmospheric public rooms - they could... More

I had a very pleasant stay here a couple of years ago. The staff was very nice and accommodating. My room with a large patio was outstanding. Also, the breakfast served was superb. I hope to return one day to this very hotel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Behind the Medicean column there is the Hotel Il Marzocco, the oldest in town. It was built in 1500 as a farm of the nearby convent. In 1860 it became a hotel and since the early 1900s it has been run by the same family. The hotel looks like a large house where the atmosphere of the old times is still kept. Its bedrooms open on wide lounges that, like the reading room and the sitting room, are furnished with genuine XIX century pieces. Some bedrooms have balconies or terraces with a view on the valleys, other ones have their windows over the Renaissance houses of the old town. The hotel has had important guests like actors, writers, politicians, all of whom are fond of the great view from its terraces. A free parking area is available, as well as comfortable relaxing spaces and a wide dining room where breakfast is served from a rich buffet with home-made bread and cakes, jams and pies. Among the roses of the garden, the Canada creeper climbs until the terraces and creates a pergola up to the roof, at first green in summer, than all red in September and yellow during the autumn. Red geraniums at the windows, together with the old lace curtains, add to the building a perfectly romantic touch. Wi-Fi Connection. We accept pets. Free Indoor garage for motorbikes and bicycles. ... more   less
