The hotel was recommended to us by our travel agent whose decisions we accept without question. Located on the edge of the lake in the small town of Menaggio, elegant in the old style, no frills but spotlessly clean. Family owned for 30 years, the owner Alberto has a wine bar a few villages away he may take you there... More

We have stayed at GHV 8 times previously and generally liked the albergo. It is in a converted ‘old world’ villa with little change and ancient furniture that makes it easy for one to imagine what it was like to stay in a grand hotel in the 1950’s. Other than the TVs, don’t expect top find anything new and definitely... More

This hotel must have the best location on Lake Como. Unlike many it is not on the busy lake road nor next to a ferry terminal. It is situated on a small peninsular with only a very minor one way road between you and the lake. . Despite the peace and quiet it is only a few minutes walk to... More

I have no words to describe this Hotel which maintains an ancient allure almost forgotten everywhere else on the lake, an allure only true lineage can fully understand. The genius loci is kept by the family running this jewel with an incredible sense of measure, Italian courtesy and cosmopolitan savoir faire. I rent a room for an entire summer (week... More

Great location for a classic Italian resort hotel - beautifully kept and excellently run. The food is a cut above average hotel fare (though breakfast is usual selection) Very good pool too, beautifully kept and plenty of beds in a secluded spot. Convenient for town and embarkation for ferry which gives very good access around the lake to Bellagio and... More

This is a comfortable hotel with pleasant indoor and outdoor sitting areas; pool at rear; well maintained. Dinner was excellent and suavely served. We had a major problem in that we paid extra -- a lot of money -- for a lake view but in fact an enormous tree completely blocked the view. When we asked at reception we were... More

This is a wonderful hotel overlooking Lake Como. It is very quiet and peaceful and the staff are obliging and friendly. The food is excellent as is the service. The town centre is a short stroll away where there are some pretty shops, cafes and bars. There are several other towns and villas accessible by boat from the town. Would... More

A grand old hotel that is run by extremely competent and obliging staff. Friendly service, lovely lake view room (worth paying the extra) and good food. It is conveniently located close to the town centre where there are ample small bars and restaurants and many interesting and attractive places to visit are only a short boat ride away. Would definitely... More

This is a fantastic hotel in a quite part of mennagio. Very helpful staff who spoke English, but appreciated your little Italian. I had a single room with a mini balcony overlooking the lake. Very comfortable, with everything you needed, except tea/coffee making facilities as is usual in Italy, but they were happy for me to bring my travel kettle... More

Just back home from a lovely first stay at GHV in Menaggio. Hotel ideally located in quiet part of town, with pleasant view out of rear rooms as well as the front rooms. Room clean and comfortable. Ten minute walk to town square cafes/shops/TIC and ferry station for links across lake. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful, without exception. Nice... More
