This is how it happens . minimum booking requires a 2 night stay , we were booked for Friday and Saturday nights as we were to attend a wedding next door , this requires a travel time of approx 3.5 hours , Owners rang to confirm we would still be staying (hmm that's a yes we had paid the deposit)... Black Jack Lodge is situated in a wonderful location - right by a beautiful beach, very close to a friendly bar and a well-stocked dairy/liquor store. It is also an amazing gateway to all the gems of Coromandel. The Lodge itself is well maintained and beautifully surrounded by nature. The staff were very nice and welcoming. We stayed in a... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in February. We had a wonderful large spacious room with ensuite and decking looking out to the ocean. Everything was well kept & spotless.Very good value & such a wonderful spot. In the mornings we would throw on some shorts & walk along the deserted beach, heaven! It was really hard to leave. Highly... More

I stayed in Black Jack Lodge twice. Once in a king bedroom in the main building, once in the Chalet in the garden. This place is just perfect. It is very affordable, the garden is so well looked after, the accomodation is clean and confortable, and the owners are lovelyfriendly and helpful. Kuaotonu is such a cute place, far away... More

We are NZer's and last time we stayed at Kuaotunu we were at the campsite which was lovely but having noticed Black Jack's great location and beautiful garden we decided we'd try there next trip. That trip has just been and we had an awesome stay. It's a wee paradise for those who want to unwind and explore the local... More

When we arrived at Black Jack Lodge, we were welcomed with the words "fish will be served at 5 pm". One of the other guests had caught a big king fish, which Carl, the landlord, had smoked , and then we all hat dinner together with home brewed bear from Carl, and everybody added something for the meal. It was... More

We'd steered away from 'backpackers' assuming they would be noisy. Black Jack's - a peaceful oasis - made us regret this. We had one of the best stays of our long NZ holiday there - and certainly the most memorable. Wandering around the Coromandel we'd come across Kuaotunu and thought the beach and landscape stunning. We could only see one... More

We returned to Black Jack after 4 years and relived happy memories of a comfortable lodge in superb surroundings. Carl and Carla are welcoming hosts and the little village of Kuaotunu now boasts an excellent rustic restaurant, as well as a shop and art gallery/coffee shop. Unbeatable location for a few lazy days or to explore the whole Coromandel Peninsula.

When we arrived in Kuaotunu, we were amazed at how this very little town has everything one could possibly need on a summer holiday: one dairy with humongous ice cream servings; one restaurant with pizza and toasties so good I wouldn't mind having them everyday; a cafe with delicious sweet treats and art; and of course, Black Jack Lodge. It's... More
