We stayed in this beautiful family run hotel for 4 nights. A great base for exploring all the Aeolian Islands from. We were touched by the kindness and generosity of all the staff, (In particular the gregarious owner Adriano, Frederick who treats you like royalty at each meal and Francesco to name a few). The rooms are spacious and meticulously cleaned by a lovely lady every morning and towels replaced as needed. On our first day our ferry from Milazzo was delayed by several hours and we arrived at the hotel at 2330hrs. Even tho the kitchen closes at 2130hrs the staff had stayed behind to serve us a delicious meal. On another occasion our ferry from Stromboli was late returning and despite the fact the kitchen had just closed they prepared a three course meal. On all occasions this hotel goes the extra mile to make your stay memorable. The balcony view looking out over the bays azure water & boats is delightful. The food is delicious and the 3 course menu changes each night. All meals are served on a balcony with magical views over looking the bay. The hotel basks in sun all day and there is a platform with numerous lounge chairs and easy access to swimming. The hotel is situated an easy short walk from the town of Lipari. The hotel is very quiet and we are so glad we stayed here. We would highly recommend this hotel to all travellers who are looking for a very special experience.

The most awful experience we have ever had. My wife and I have stayed at over 300 hotels in my life. I’ve never written a bad review(not that every experience has been perfect, but they were never shocking) This was beyond bad. The air conditioning in the room doesn’t work. My friends and I both changed rooms in the middle of the first night. The next room was the same. They advertise they have a Sauna,I just didn’t realise it was our room. The pictures of the beautiful deck could not be more wrong. The water you are supposed to dive in to is filthy. My friends and I left the next morning even though we had booked for 4 days. I knew we would lose the money for the remaining 3 days, but we did it anyway. It was that bad. The staff were unbelievably rude and mean. Lipari is fantastic. The Hotel we then moved in to was a wonderful experience. It cost us a lot of money to change, but was worth it. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!

Response from Ariana Longo, Direttore generale at Hotel Rocce Azzurre & SPA
Responded Jun 30, 2023
Dear John, as you can see from all of our reviews, our staff is always mentioned as " all perfectly lovely staff who cannot do enough to make your stay an absolute delight". It is not true that your friends changed room and you wanted to change room in the AFTERNOON, non it in the middle of the night, because you wanted to be on the 3rd floor near your friend and not because the air condition wasn't working. Our air conditioning was working very well. The air conditioning is centralized and cannot be more than 6 degrees lower than the temperature outside, if you keep your balcony open, the air condition won't work. You wrote that your stay was hell but you enjoyed the afternoon in our terrace overlooking the sea. Our staff wasn't rude, they just asked you why you wanted to leave as it was an excuse that the air con wasn't working. We had a full hotel and there were also other guests and there were no complaints. We went to check your room and it was cool. Maybe the bubbles went to your head!

This lovely hotel overlooks the sea and has its own private jetty for swimming and sunbathing. The views are sublime both day and night. We stayed 4 nights and our stay was very pleasant. Our room was cute and had a perfect view of the sea, which made it all the more magical. The staff were very helpful and kind. Ariana, the manager was extremely helpful and sweet. She booked and arranged all our excursions and activities. She gave us recommendations on where and what to eat, what to do and see in this cute little city. The food at the hotel was fresh and unique. On the evening of the bank holiday (Aug 15th ), the hotel organised a lovely dinner for their guests to enjoy while overlooking a sublime view of the sea and moon. The hotel spa is also a great place to retreat, if need be. It is well equipped and offers a range of up to date services. Such a humble and caring team. We really enjoyed this authentic and heavenly vacation at this hidden gem. We cannot be happier with our experience in Lipari and all it had to offer.

The Hotel is set on the sea front and has its own private jetty, on which you can sunbath or swim in the crystal clear water. There are steps to help you into the water if you prefer not to jump in. This is a fairly small family run hotel. The staff were all very friendly and incredibly helpful. They booked a day trip to Stromboli for us. This included an amazing return boat trip, an afternoon on Stromboli, dinner on the boat, although I’d opt to eat at a restaurant as the food was quite basic. To top it off Stromboli showed off to us with a few minor (but spectacular) eruptions. The rooms were neat, clean, cool. The wardrobe had plenty of hanging space and a hairdryer situated in the bathroom next to the mirror (I find a lot of hotels leave the hairdryer free for you to choose where to plug in, this is not normally near a mirror!!). The shower was quite small but was enough to serve its purpose. Breakfast was basic. Fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt, scrambled egg, meats, tea, coffee etc. We had dinner one night in the hotel and the food was excellent. The restaurant area is set overlooking the sea. I witnessed the best sunset I’ve ever seen. Absolutely no complaints regarding this hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

It’s all about the view and the swimming deck. This is one of the early hotels on the island and it is in a very good location perched right on the water’s edge. It is a short walk to Marina Corta with plenty of shops and restaurants. The village here has a nice feel about it. The lady at the front desk is very professional, friendly and helpful. She speaks perfect English because she lived in London. She arranged a boat trip for our small group with Salvatore (Amici delle Eolie) and it was wonderful! (see separate review). She also arranged the free pick up and drop off to and from the harbour and this is a good service. The other staff at this hotel were fairly efficient and pleasant except the head waiter (enough said). We elected to pay extra for a sea view room with a small balcony and I would go so far as to say that this is essential. It is the main point of this hotel. In hindsight, I think you can do much better on this lovely island. The room and bathroom were both clean and serviceable but fairly small. The shower is just too small to be comfortable. The Spa on the top level was not operational at the time of our visit. We had dinner here on the first night and it was disappointing even though the terrace overlooking the sea is beautifully positioned. A group of six, we tried everything on the fixed menu and none of us really enjoyed any of it. Both choices for the main course fish had seen better days. The Breakfast is typically Italian with a reasonable selection but food is somehow not the main focus at this hotel and that is a shame . It is the food and people that keep us coming back to Italy. I couldn’t really recommend staying here unless the food improves.

The oldest and probably the best hotel on the island. Great location and views. The owner, his daughter and all The staff are always helpful, friendly and obliging. To get the best out of the hotel, pay extra to get a room with a sea view. We have stayed at the Roche Azzure on numerous occasions over the years. Fresh fish of the day, delicious.

We stayed here as part of a group at the end of June. The hotel has a lovely location overlooking the sea with views out towards Sicily. The rooms are basic but provide you with all the amenities that you require. The rooms are clean and new towels each day. We were half board - food was ok but nothing special and tended to get a bit boring. One issue was that we felt that the group were treated less well than other residents - given tables at the back of the terrace. The one really positive part of our holiday was our Guide - he took us to some great restaurants on other islands and in the countryside near Lipari. I would recommend the hotel as a base for exploring the islands but I would suggest that it may be better to only opt for bed/breakfast and eat outwith the hotel in the evening.

We stayed here for 4 nights in late June/early July. This is a family run hotel and they will do their best to make your stay a pleasant and stress-free one. We were met at the port and enjoyed the squeeze of a drive round some very tight corners. Ariana, who greeted us at reception, was born in London and speaks fluent Italian too; she runs the hotel with her father. This proved very handy when we wanted to book a trip and arrange transport on to another island - she did the ringing up and organising for us. Our room was simply furnished, with a comfy bed, large balcony and tremendous view. There's plenty of hot water, though the shower is a bit of a squeeze. Breakfast is typically Italian - fruit, cheese, salami, cakes, pastries, rolls, juice, coffee - and there is lunch and dinner available. We were on B and B basis, but ate in the hotel twice in the evening as we found it very good value for money. There is a selection of 3 dishes per course, and it's all fresh food, cooked to order, with not surprisingly an emphasis on fish. You will be offered bottled water - there is no water source on the islands and it's transported by tanker from Napoli. Don't expect 'tap water' to drink. There is wifi available in the room for around a euro per 24 hours, but my phone picked up 4G so it wasn't essential. The walk back into the town/port is very pleasant and takes at most 10 minutes. Can I also suggest that if you're up for a little challenge, ask Ariana the way to the former Observatory which overlooks the nearby island of Vulcano. The view from the top is incredible and well worth the walk uphill. We really enjoyed our stay here. It's not the poshest hotel you'll find, but it's friendly and relaxing. Ariana and the team will do their very best to look after you. She could give many receptionists lessons in how to look after guests.

We stayed here 3 nights and did not want to leave. The location right on the cliffs and being able to dive straight into the sea, listening to the sea lapping and a lovely quiet room with really nice staff, what more would you want! They sent a car to pick us up from the hydrofoil. Breakfast was lovely, sitting on the terrace.
