I had to travel to S. Texas for a 3 week business trip that had me commuting between Harlingen and Brownsville Texas. I was fortunate to have stayed at the Rancho Viejo Ranch conveniently located between the two cities. Pros: The grounds of the resort were kept up nicely and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I stayed in... More

Our group of more than 10 people was accommodated well throughout our stay at Rancho Viejo. The on-campus restaurant served delicious food during both of our meals there, the staff remained helpful (even with the changes that needed to be made somewhat last minute), and the facilities are beautiful as the well manicured golf course and suites create a nice,... My husband and I wanted a midweek getaway before going on a weekend family vacation and selected Rancho Viejo as our two day golfing vacation. We were very pleasantly greeted and checked in easily. The one bedroom villa was lovely and had a beautiful view of the water and the golf course. The golf course itself is great, and it... More

This place has the potential to be a destination resort to me, but where it is now just doesn't cut it, especially for the price. This is exactly what I would imagine a Motel 6 resort would be like. PROS: Nicely situated close to both Harligen and Brownsville. The gold course looked well kept. CONS: The villas themselves were outdated... More

My husband and I spent two nights in a one bedroom villa and drove back and forth to South Padre which is about 30 minutes each way. The little house was nice and modern and we especially enjoyed the washer/dryer in the kitchenette. Beds were a little firm -- overly firm for some people. This is a very quiet place... More

We believe that the positive reviews must be from employees. Don't believe them. Let me start by saying that the employees however are very nice. Have no complaints there. That's where the positive experience ends. For the $200 plus dollars a night go stay somewhere where the floors are clean, the bathroom fan doesn't sound like it's taking off, grounds... More

We stayed here with my husband's folks, and his brother's family. His folks took the main villa and each of the brothers got one of the side rooms. I would not book a side room if you are by yourself but it is great for families to be together. The main villa is like a condo with a kitchen, living,... More

Let me start by mentioning just how fantastic this vacation was for my fiancée and me. My now wife and I booked a stay here to include catering service for our March 29th Wedding. Both Connie and Gloria have completely blown us away with the amount of care and service they gave us. The amount of attention and consideration these... More

We never stay at the same place twice for vacation because there are so many great possibilities out there. Rancho Viejo became the exception. We had so completely enjoyed our stay in one of their roomy, comfortable villas for the month of February, 2013 (we were located with our patio viewing the 18th fairway and pond - perfect for golf... We had stayed here a couple of years age and were impressed by the number and quality of improvements made to the entire complex since then. The accommodations, as expected, were clean and comfortable and very well appointed. The addition of a washer and dryer was a pleasant surprise and very useful for an extended stay. The new furnishings have... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Rancho Viejo is a golf community and resort that stretches across 1,400 verdant acres in the tropical Lower Rio Grande Valley in South Texas. At 26.04 degrees latitude, the lower Rio Grande valley is at the southernmost point of the mainland United States; practically due west of Miami.Originally carved through citrus groves and built along resacas, the ancient waterways of the Rio Grand Delta, Rancho Viejo offers a golfing paradise, on two par 70 eighteen-hole championship golf courses. Also located on property are two excellent dining facilities and a conference center with plenty of meeting and special occation event rooms. Our award winning swimming pool, with its very large waterfall and beach landing, will remind you of the South Seas.Cruising the resaca aboard the Delta Dawn (coming soon), playing tennis in the evening on lighted tennis courts or an opportunity to practice your golf game on our driving range, chipping and putting greens is also available. Rancho Viejo, dates back to the Espiritu Land Grant by the King of Spain 1771. Ever present is the influence of the Spanish and Mexican heritage. You see it in the red tile roofs, fountains and tropical gardens that grace the public areas of the resort. Hotel accommodations are in 1, 2 and 3 bedroom villas located along the El Diablo golf course or the Resaca del Rancho Viejo. All villas are furnished with new modern-style furnishings and have beautiful views. They are quiet and peaceful. Parking is plentiful and available in front of each villa as well as around the other resort facilities. ... more   less
