Lovely old Inn ideally situated in this picturesque English village with plenty of quirky shops and local food available. The evening meal was delicious; rib-eye steak with amazing homemade chunky chips, garlic mushrooms and green beans. The staff were friendly and helpful and the prices fair. The issue, and it is a BIG issue, is the chiming of the church... More

Thank you for your generally kind review. I am very glad you enjoyed your meal and in general your stay. Very sorry that you didn't sleep well. I appreciate it doesn't help you but you are only the second person in four years to take issue with the bells. I think it fair to point out that whilst they do... More

A charming and rustic old coaching house with a first class chef (hi Richard!) an extremely capable and responsive manager (Laura) and a great team of bar staff. Each of the 5 rooms are ensuite with their own theme and personality, but all are fabulously clean and comfortable. A great place, with great people.

Thank you for your great review. I like room four best myself though all rooms have as you say something different to offer. I will pass your kind comments on to Laura and Richard. Hope to see you again. More

My partner and I were booked in to this hotel by my assistant. I would have been reticent about going had I seen some of the negative reviews, however we arrived "blind" as it were. So let's get one thing straight from the outset. The negative reviewers were completely misleading. Let's go through the experience step by step. The building... More

Thank you very much for such a great and detailed review. It's super for us to have people who get the quirky bits and enjoy all the other things we have to offer. It's particularly pleasing when it comes from someone with rather a lot of reviews behind them. Any business including ours needs to strive to constantly improve, which... More

We had been to the George sometime ago and hadn't been back as the food hadn't been particularly enticing. The food and the service we had on our recent visit were both delightful and on top of that was exceptionally good value. It has always been a quirky and interesting old pub and with the good food ,we will certainly... More

Made to feel very welcome upon arrival and shown to our rooms, our room was a large room with an interconnecting door to our other room which was for the kids to use,our room had jacuzzi bath and a saniflo toilet(which was quite noisy) the kids had a rain shower in theirs. Given the rather expensive price of an overnight... More

Firstly I am very sorry that your stay did not live up to your and indeed my expectations. However it would of been more productive and beneficial to you if you had raised these points at the time and allowed us the opportunity to put things right. There also appear to be a number of inaccuracies which I will address.... More

I had booked a meal at the George as it offered a childrens menu, which I required for my 2 year old granddaughter. There were 7 in total in my party. I had booked the table for 6 pm and was told at the time of booking that it may be 6.15 before we could be served, which I accepted.... More

Thank you for taking the time to review us. The tone of your review seems very unbiased and thank you for the positive comments you made. In respect of service clearly something went wrong on that occasion and I apologise. It's good to hear that you thought the waiting staff were pleasant but not so good that they seemed inefficient... On the recommendation of a friend I booked into The George for a long weekend and have really enjoyed my stay there. The manager and his wife made me feel very welcome at all times and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly throughout my stay. From its crackling log fires to old building charm I couldn't have found a... More

Have stayed here twice now. The first time the room was a little cold and it has a saniflow system in it so was a bit of a pain as it sounded like we had a dragon in the bathroom! Very old building, shabby country style so don't expect a boutique style place.. We were made to feel very welcome.... More

Many thanks for your kind review. In answer to a couple of your points we have replaced the toilet macerator with a new one which to us certainly seems quieter. We only have the one room with a macerator and due to listed building controls had no alternative. We have had the radiators thermostatic valve serviced and the radiator bled... More

Locals who popped in for a lunchtime beer, thinking we may go there for lunch, while waiting for the local butcher to open. Had a pint of local Glastonbury ale, Lady of the Lake, that I know well, my wife had a half of shandy. Served by two young ladies who needed to pay more attention to the customers than... More

Thank you for your comments. I do apologise that your visit did not live up to expectations. As can be seen from this site, this is not the general experience of our customers. The ladies in question were dealing with a matter for another customer on our online booking system but should of course have been more attentive. The beer... More

Second review for the George from me, and this time a really lovely evening. 4 of us went, all had mains and a few drinks. Food was great, service better this time (previous trips suffered with disorganised staff) and all in all, a good night.
