So, table of 4 arrived seconds before us. Then us 4 (2 adults, 2 kids), then 20 mins later an older couple. That was it, nobody else in pub. Table of 4 order staters, mains, pud. We order only mains. Older couple order. Table of 4 get starters, plates taken away. Table of 4 then get mains. No food for... More

Quiet location, Colin should be on mastermind - his specialist subject Whiskey Distilling. Also to be commended on his excellent choice of Marmalade! Room was very clean and warm with really decent shower.

I was present when the previous reviewer was at the pub, having myself reserved two tables there for a meal (our booking is a regular recurring monthly one, which started many years ago) and I think it's a bit unfair, to be honest. In my opinion the owner did remarkably well to serve drinks to this large party before trying... More

I would recommend that you NEVER stay at the farmers inn. I have never met such RUDE people. We booked back in march to stay for two nights. I had to book two rooms as we have two children as they do not cater for family's with two children. The only reason we agreed to book it is we were... More

We have hosted many, many wedding parties the night before their big day with great success. The guests all seem to enjoy the informality and the relaxed atmosphere in our small country pub ahead of the formalities of the actual wedding day. This meal was booked for 18 and later amended to 20 NOT 26 ! The person who booked... More

Stayed in a cottage in Ruthwell with friends and went here for a meal. The menu was a mixture of traditional pub grub with quite a few specialities. Two of us plumped for chicken and haggis and two for chicken and black pudding. We all sgreed that the meals we had were delicious and the helpings more than adequate. The... More

A few miles past Gretna Green Clarencefield is a settlement yet to achieve one-horse-town status. The Farmer's Inn is therefore the one place to stay. The Inn itself is bog-standard, with somewhat tired decor and furnishings. Likewise, there is a typical much-thumbed but still tasty menu. But there is a fair choice of little known Scots beers. In the back... More

We booked this inn as we were attending a friends wedding at Comlongon Castle nearby. Prior to arriving I confirmed with the owner that we would be able to check in at 12 (as the check in time is 12.30) When we arrived we parked at the back of the inn. I made the grave mistake of entering what looked... More

This review has been reported for breaching Trip Advisor guidelines. I like most accommodation providers will not tolerate blackmail. The reviewer blatantly threatened us with a bad review unless we complied with their "demands" - sorry you were speaking to the wrong person. Apart from that the review is more fantasy than fact to put it very politely. As I... More

Highly recommended. My Wife & I along with parents and family regularly eat, drink and socialise in the Farmers. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, the food is very tasty and a good choice on the menu. We have had family & friends stay in the accommodation behind the Pub aswell and they have always given good feedback.

I stayed at the Farmers Inn to attend a Wedding in the Castle on Sat 15 Feb 14. As I was Best Man, had arranged to meet the Groom between 12.00 - 12.30 and only travelled from North Yorkshire I arrived at around 10.15am. It was pouring down with rain and I rang the front door bell 3 or 4... More

Our earliest advertised check in time is 12.30 and occasionally, depending on the circumstances, we will let guests in at 12.00. However if a guest arrives unannounced over 2 hours before our regular check in time they cannot "expect" to get access to their rooms. This was explained to the guest and directions were given to places where he could... More
