We regularly visit the barrel for drinks and this was the first evening meal we have enjoyed. All three courses were perfect (especially the cheesecake I had for dessert). Prices are not the cheapest but are appropriate for the quality of the food. Service was also good. Perfect for a treat meal out. We will return.

This pub has the advantage of being in a great location with spectacular views in all directions. The views alone would make this pub popular but the food is just great. Good wholesome meals served by a professional and friendly staff make this a great night out. Be sure to book though - it is popular.

Had Sunday lunch here. Glorious views if you sit outside. It was a bit chilly though, and with children we had booked a table in the restaurant. Adults had roasted beef and lamb, which were both delicious 10/10. Roasties were nice, and mashed potatoes included. Veggies were a side dish. Generous portions. Didn't try pud, but eyeing up other peoples,... More

I took elderly relatives for a drive in the Peak District and stopped off here for lunch. It was very busy even on a weekday, despite its remote location, and booking is advisable. There are wonderful views from the front of the pub and the interior is very olde worlde. The staff team was young, extremely friendly and polite and... More

Met a long distance friend here for lunch as it is half way between our homes and chose it based on other good trip advisor reviews and was not disappointed! The staff were really friendly and the pub very traditional in decor with the beams accross the ceiling. The menu had a good selection including the usual pub food items,... More

I first visited this excellent pub whilst at Uni in Sheffield back along and so to discover that local musicians still turn up randomly with their fiddles & banjos to enjoy the 'craic' is a sign of enduring excellence. The menu is unpretentious and plentiful and the locally sourced meats are tasty & great value. And the beer is stunningly... More

Lovely little pub with a fantastic view. We had the traditional English fish, chips and mushy peas and they didn't disappoint. Make sure your hungry though because they are huge. Amazingly busy for a Tuesday lunch time and filled with locals which is always a good sign.

The setting is stunning so it's worth going for a pint just to enjoy the views. But the food is excellent- a much higher standard than the low key traditional country pub image would suggest. I had venison, my husband had lamb. Both delicious. Followed it up with bakewell pudding and custard- ultimate comfort food. Good value too - £60... More
