One of our favorite properties we stayed at on our trip through England! And if we had known how wonderful it was, surely we would have stayed at least more than the one night we did. We were very sad to have to leave in the morning. We got wonderfully lost trying to find this little gem, not knowing really... More

Called in today for a birthday lunch. Great views, warm welcome, fantastic food and beer. To top it all a roaring fire to keep us warm. Staff were lovely and whilst not the cheapest place very good value. Will go back soon.

In our home town the title : The Highest Pub" would likely refer to certain substances found therein. However, The Barrel's such claim refers to it's elevation above sea level, thank goodness. The chill autumnal breeze on this ridge was soon forgotten as we warmed ourselves in front of the log fire within this cosy oasis. Sunday lunchtime was busy... More

My wife and I ate on a Monday lunchtime at the Barrel Inn to and thoroughly enjoyed the food. There' plenty of choice to tempt on the menu but funnily enough we both settled for the Bretton pasty on the specials board (obviously a popular choice as we had the last two of the day!). We were warned by the... More

Visited for lunch on two separate occasions in October. Busy as normal but we were fitted in (we had not booked). Food was excellent. Service can appear slow at times, but it is all freshly prepared and time was not an issue on either visit. Will definitely go there again.

We'd been to a museum nearby and The Barrel Inn was recommended for lunch. Great place - the views are glorious, and we were lucky to get table as we hadn't booked. Food was plentiful and absolutely delicious. A real find.

Fantastic food and a very nice warm welcoming pub. Gets very busy, so if you don't want to be disappointed please book. Can't wait to go again!!!! It was certainly one of the best meals my husband and I have had in a long time.

We took advantage of a nice sunny Autumn day to drive the 70 miles from the Midlands to Bretton through the lanes via Bakewell, specifically to have lunch at this lovely out of the way Inn. The staff were most obliging and friendly as well as being efficient. The food was varied and top class, and the quantities generous. It... More
