We had eaten at this pub before on several occasions and had enjoyed the food and thought the location was terrific. So when we needed an overnight stay in Derbyshire, we thought the Barrel would fit the bill. How wrong we were! The pub has the most spectacular views and we thought our room might share these. Instead we were... More

I always go to The Barrel when visiting the area, splendid views on a clear day (apparently it's the highest pub in Derbyshire), and inside there's a fire burning and a wonderfully quaint old atmosphere. The beers kept there are never less than excellent and the food is outstanding. Very friendly and professional service too. Would never miss it -... More

Visited with family at the beginning of the month on a Sunday, when I rang up to book I was told it would be busy so given a slightly earlier time. This suited us fine. The pub itself is beautiful and exactly what you picture when you think of an old countryside inn. However we arrived and were greeted by... More

The Barrel Inn is sheer delight all round! Open fires, friendly, accommodating staff where nothing is too much trouble, wonderful menus, superb food, good wines, great beers. . . Come and behold! You will not be disappointed. Hilary & David

Walked to the Inn last week after the heavy snow. Booked for 1.15pm for a meal. Due to the bad walking conditions we arrived after 2.15pm when food orders finished! No problem gents, you can have any type of sandwich with side salad and a bowl of chips each. Sat us on table by a big fire, produced us a... More

Visited twice on snowy weekend, one lunch, one morning coffee. Very friendly, nice food, good beer. All at fair prices. No problem with boots, dogs! Snow etc Plus one of the best views you might wish for.

It ticks all the boxes for location, welcome and value for money. Lovely bar area, lots of wines by the glass, toasty fires and yummy food. Nothing fancy just does what it says on the box. Spotlessly clean everywhere. Only criticism was the bathroom which could have done with a shelf and was freezing cold. But that's being picky -... More

My parents live in Eyam and we have tried numerous pubs in the area but the Barrel trumps them all. The service is excellent, food outstanding and the pub is very snug and comfortable. It is Assisi reasonably priced and very accommodating to large groups. The view outside isn't shabby either. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

After a walk up from Leadmill Bridge, we called in for a beer or two and food, With 3 dogs, we expected to be asked to sit in the outside area, unfortunately we were freezing in there, but, Tom came to the rescue and allowed us to sit around the corner next to the fire!! Great food, good beer, excellent... More

Given that this old coaching inn dates back to 1597 I was rather disappointed that were no ghost stories or spooky goings on!! However, as a restaurant and B&B it was great. The room was clean and cosy with everything you would need for an overnight stay and the views are breathtaking. We ate a reasonably priced 3 course dinner... More
