The pub was very busy when we arrived at 1.30 on a Sunday lunchtime. Our table for 6 was ready when we arrived. The menu is quite extensive and the gluten-free options are good. I had a prawn cocktail for starters and it was bursting with plump prawns and very enjoyable. I had chicken in a stilton sauce with roast... More

We have eaten several times at the Barrel and the food is amazing, the staff are very attentive efficient and friendly. The views over the peak district are beautiful whatever the weather. Today we went for lunch and the fire was lit which was extremely welcoming, we sat by the window and admired the stunning view while enjoying the most... More

This is a charming old pub located in a hamlet right on the border between the Dark Peak and White Peak areas of the Peak District. From the front of the pub you can look out for miles to the South across the rolling fields of the White Peak. I went in for a lunchtime meal and a drink at... More

I spent a couple of nights here with my girlfriend and it was perfect. The location of the pub is second to none. It is remote and set on a high ridge with absolutely stunning views out across the Peak District. The pub itself is a lovely, old, traditional pub with original oak panelling. The food was so delicious that... More

My husband and I have recently retired and have made it our goal to try as many of the 'quaint' Derbyshire pubs for lunch as we can (and our waistlines permit). Today we called at the Barrel for lunch and have found a little gem. The greeting was warm and friendly, the choices were vast and the food was delicious.... More

Stayed for 4 nights in a comfortable quiet room that can be accessed from outside the pub. The food was plentiful and good, although on 2 nights the service was slow as a large party arrived just before us. If you have the Full English Breakfast, you won't need to eat again until the evening as it is vast! The... More

An old friend and I met up for a reunion and couldn't have picked a better spot. The staff are friendly, professional and smart, the rooms are lovely and the food is beautiful good quality pub food (great breakfast too). From the pub, there appears to be several circular walks to do. We went on one taking us to Eyam,... More

Had 3 evening meals here whilst on holiday. All were cooked to perfection. All staff were attentive and friendly. Prices very reasonable. Views outside are fantastic and you can sit on a bench with a drink to enjoy. We highly recommend.

Why do pubs these days think that £5.25 is a reasonable price for 2 slices of brown bread and a small quantity of tuna mayonnaise even if they add a few green leaves and a small quantity of coleslaw? Also not impressed with service. We wanted to pay separately but were told to sort out a combined bill as itr... More
