Lin and I went there for lunch on Tuesday for the first time. Food was very good. I had a goat's cheese starter followed by a goat's cheese and chicken main course with sweet potato. Washed down with a couple of German beers. Plenty of atmosphere and Essex people. Staff friendly. Will be going back soon.

Came here with my husband for afternoon tea... We were welcomed by a polite and friendly member of staff at the reception. Sat down and was immediately offered tea which I must say was very nice. Next came the sandwiches and cakes. The sandwiches were exquisite. They were plentiful , well presented on a lovely stand where there was also... More

I visited the Blue Boar again last week with three friends. The afternoon champagne tea has noticeable improved. The scones were noticeably bigger, warm and delicious with a mountain of luscious clotted cream and jam. The small selection of cakes are a welcome addition to the tea. They have also increased to allocation of another one finger sandwich per person.... More

Hello Madam Thank you very much for your kind words on how nice the afternoon tea was. May I firstly apologise if you thought any of my staff were rude the 2 ladies that were working that day have both worked for us for over 3 years and I have never had a complaint about there attitude or friendliness. Though... More

Went there with some friends and our little dog. The food was amazing. We sat outside in the sun, was very comfortable and relaxing! Went inside to order food and drink, the decor was very clean and very modern. We have decided to go back to eat inside sometime soon!! Would definitely recommend it!!

We had booked a table round the corner at the Maltsters' Arms, but they denied that we had booked and had said they were not serving lunch on 10 August. We walked round to the Blue Boar, who kindly said we could sit at the bar but have the restaurant menu. We had the most delicious sirloin beef lunches, and... More

I'm going to skip straight to the quality of the food in this review and the value for money. This restaurant has shown no consideration for its customers with regards to the saying "you get what you pay for" To be honest your better off staying at home with an M&S meal. I had the ribs! Now the ribs had... More

Nice venue and very friendly staff but they are missing a trick here. My wife had prawn cocktail to start; tiny frozen prawns (like potted prawn size) with a dob of thousand island on top - totally flavourless. I had tempura prawns which were nicely presented but again I suspect they were frozen as they were flavourless. Main course; my... More

After the mixed reviews I was a bit aprehensive meeting friends for here for dinner and drinks especially with a plethora of dietary requirements that I have. Well I didn't need to worry... The place is beautifully presented inside and out and the staff were welcoming, friendly and attentative. The manager was exceptionally pleasant and went out of his way... More

We hired out the whole place (not the hotel rooms though)for out Engagement Party and i have to say it could not of gone any better. The management and the staff bent over backwards to make sure our night was a real success, very professional, smart and always on hand to make sure everyone was well looked after. The food we... Got invited here for a family celebration. Drove 60 miles each way and was really looking forward to it. Had the room with the big table, like an indoor conservatory to ourselves which was very nice but was rather hot. Staff were Ok, nothing special to mention about and our drinks were delivered in a timely manner. Ordered the Sticky... More
