Had one night here, very basic rooms, rather dated. Breakfast was served between 8am and 9am, we gave that a miss, too early. Fantastic view from our room. Brilliant setting, lovely surrounding area. Walked into Cromford in the afternoon, just 15 minute walk away. We got a taxi into Matlock, in the evening, cost £8. Nice for a change.....

Had a 2 night break here which was brilliant for what we paid! Room had a fantastic view though furniture a bit dated we didn't mind and it added to its charm for us. We didn't have en-suite and it added to the fun going to a loo in the turret! We had the swimming pool to ourselves on a... More

The inside of the hotel isn't as luxurious as the outside led us to expect, but that said, it was still very pleasant. Our room (40) was nice and spacious, with a decent sized bathroom and appeared to have been recently redecorated. It was very pleasant, with a large comfortable bed. I believe it was two smaller beds joined together,... More

Came on a Sunday afternoon, told that there were only 3 scones left...not enough for the 7 of us! Offered alternatives & asked to pay full price! Poor quality food, stale scones & sandwiches, cream that tasted sour and was out of a can. Made a complaint to the manager who said they will look into it & halved our... More

Myself and a friend visited Willersley Castle and didn't know what to expect. We entered the drawing room to find we were able to have seats with a nice view across the valley. We wanted a nice chat in a relaxed atmosphere at a leisurely pace. The afternoon tea was presented with 4 quarters of sandwiches; tuna mayo, egg mayo,... More

Called in for a cream tea and had a lovely table in the sun overlooking the Derwent and a limestone cliff in front. We did not stay but the building looking lovely and old. Food and service were faultless

A perfect base for exploring the area. Comfortable room with everything you could need. Yes there is no TV but you're on holiday to get away from it all, right? They are in the process of installing tvs in the rooms though. The pool was a welcome bonus after a days sightseeing. The staff are really knowledgeable and provided tips... More

I stayed at this hotel on business on 14th May 2014. On the outside the hotel looks very nice, in a nice county setting. On checking in I found the Hotel has a strange policy of only 1 setting for Dinner at 06:30pm, which is not suitable for business users as I was still working at this time in Northampton,... More

Dear TroncLondon Thank you for your review on Tripadvisor. Naturally we are dissapointed with your reveiw as on the whole we get positive responses from our guests. This said, we take all comments very seriously and value your feedback. The bed that you had within your room is what is known as a zip'n'link bed which most hotels use in... More

We arrived here as part of a party from the Fylde Naturalist's Society. Our organisers had done a good job and the negotiated price was good. The hotel is a beautiful, historic building (former the home of the Arkwright family of Cromford Mill fame) with stunning views over the river. Our room was okay but a bit worn. The view... More

I booked this through late rooms without checking any reviews, but got to say the overall experience was better than i expected. It may not be for everyones tastes and the room are proberly in need of a bit of a touch up, but in all honesty it adds to the hotel. I will certainly go again.
