It takes a while (90 minutes-ish) to drive all the way over to Tahiti Iti from the port or airport in Papeete, but we were so thankful that we did. The larger portion of Tahiti (Tahiti Nui) is congested and graffiti-filled, and I was seriously regretting our decision to spend three nights on the island before our cruise. But Vanira... More

Avoid this place for your own safety! In all our years of travel we have never been threatened with physical violence by hotel staff but it happened at Vanira Lodge. Here is our cautionary tale: On our first night, we arrived at the "restaurant" for our reservation time and found that there was just one local woman working there doing... More

The rooms here are pretty stunning. Each bungalow is handcrafted using local materials, and the attention to detail in the construction totally shows. They are totally open air, which is great for hearing the rain falling during an early morning storm and for getting the fresh breeze in your room. We stayed in one with a kitchenette, and the room... More

This place is magical. With breath taking views of the most amazing waters in the South Pacific, ear shot away from the roaring crash of Teahupoo's waves along the outer reef, and amazing service that makes you feel like Tahitian kings and queens, this is the perfect place for a nature lover to escape the world around, and become one... As others have noted, having a car is useful: the driveway is quite long & quite steep. The payoff, however, is a remarkable setting in five manicured acres on a plateau overlooking the ocean. The houses-- with features unique to each building-- are architecturally brilliant AND comfortable. This place is not for everyone: if you're a little squeamish or think... More

We, four adults, stayed at Vanira Lodge for two nights, in the third week of December 2013. We arrived fresh from a 10 day cruise, via two public bus rides from Papeete ferry wharf. It was quite a ride with our luggage, but we got there after 2.5 hours. The bus driver told us were to get off the bus... More

My wife and I recently stayed here for a few days in early November 2013. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all and in fairly luxurious accomdations in a spectaculer setting then this is it. I am careful when I use the work "fairly luxurious," because the term luxurious generally implies super properties like... More

We stayed at the Vanira Lodge 3 days during 2012 Holiday season, from 12/28/2012 to 12/31/2012. The Lodge and accommodations are very relaxing, tranquil and a great place get away from everything. Some of the views from the rooms and around the grounds are spectacular and a great photo opportunity. I found the front desk to be very helpful in... More

This was our second visit to Vanira Lodge (the last being in 2008). Both visits we stayed in the Maara room (one of the 'nature fare'). We love it; it's like a treehouse with a fantastic sunset view. Yes, you'll come across some ants and a few geckos (hint: don't leave food out), but in an open-air concept room that's... More

I feel slightly torn on this because I agree with both the good and the bad reviews. Robinson Crusoe meets Tarzan is absolutely right. The complex is on a good site, a hill overlooking the sea - with spectacular views and sunsets. I am not a natural walker but even for me the walks/hiking around Tahiti Iti are really exciting...
